Beacon is a sci-fi themed Action Roguelike. Played as a top-down shooter, you must fight your way through a randomly generated hostile world, all the while trying to locate your emergency distress beacon and escape the planet into which your ship has crashed. While you’re making your way through these areas you’ll not only find weapons and items to help you; You’ll also be collecting DNA from the enemies you defeat. Then, when you inevitably die, you’re given the opportunity to combine the DNA you’ve collected to your own, granting you different stats and potentially gameplay-altering physical mutations for your next run. Beacon aims to create a bridge between fast, frenetic action and long-term strategy, where your actions can be felt and built upon hours down the line.

I like this game a lot, but it's pretty fuckin difficult. Can't know what you're buying before you buy it, often you don't know how to use something you get and it gets you killed. you could have great stats but if there's no good equipment appearing early enough, fat lot it did you. but it is really dynamic and fun because the RNG affects so much.

i mean, it's fine? the DNA system immediately shouted out "HEY THIS IS COOL" and then all my "choices" locked in and I felt stuck. and then i got a bunch of undesigned levels slammed together by "procedural generation" where i occasionally got to use the very cool weapons i picked up. nice enemy variety, probably a good weapon variety, i liked the premise, but this mostly seems like whiffed potential.

Fun concept that's confusingly executed. Nice art style.
