Daytona USA 2: Battle on the Edge is an arcade racing game released by Sega in 1998 as a follow-up to the extremely successful Daytona USA. The game featured vastly superior graphics, utilizing the Sega Model 3 hardware. The majority of Daytona USA 2 cabinets were released as deluxe models (with far fewer Twin Cabinets), which could be linked together for up to four players. A notable change from the original is the ability to select a car and corresponding driver, each with varying capabilities for varying levels of player experience. Just like before, the game has three courses – a Beginner course with 8 laps, an Advanced course with 4 laps, and a long Expert course with 2 laps. The 'time lap' mode also returns, and is accessed in the same manner – by holding down start at the transmission select screen. Like the original game, mirrored versions of the tracks can also be played by holding down the Start button when selecting the course. It is recommended, however, that the player has had mastery of the course beforehand. By request, an arcade operator could put the game on Grand Prix or Endurance mode to increase the number of laps in a game. Finishing a race in the top 3 in any course allows the player to view an "ending" and see the game credits.

Played all tracks in Power Edition- today being the first time I actually got to complete Advanced Reverse and Expert Reverse...the only two tracks that were missing for me to complete after beating the rest of the tracks normally in 2021 or so.

The coolest thing is to have achieved those runs with the Hornet of all things- which forces you to gearshift/play Daytona USA 1 style. So yeah, I can mark this one as completed...technically.

I think the only thing left now would be racing ALL TRACKS in Mirror mode...but I wouldn't bet on that unless I happened to feel like it again and get a good streak to beat all seven races again but in mirror mode.

an insanely humbling racing experience.
The high risk high reward system is so exhilarating once you start winning

There seems to be a lot of hardcore fans of this one and I can see why: with the high energy cars, the awesome music, and the visually interesting courses (especially the amusement park) there's definitely a lot to love!

TIME EXTENSION!

Please teach me how to play this insane game I can finish the races but I can't place above 9th I know there's skill to this and would love to git gud.

The way the 3-course race has the tracks blend together feels like proto-OutRun 2, says man who compares every game to OutRun 2

The original release of this game, Battle On The Edge, had one of the coolest first stages ever. It was a biodome with a really high glass dome with a jungle section with waterfalls and stuff behind it. It was beautiful, like one of those fantasy tracks from SCUD Race. They completely removed it from the updated Power Edition from the game, I guess to make it look more like Daytona 1. It is a huge downgrade. And that's the version that made it into Yakuza! No one's getting to see the Biodome!

Bring back the Biodome you cowards.
