fun, underrated, but nothing for weak VR stomachs.

Never listen to Doom fans on this, it's extremely fun and simple. It's made to turn your brain off and game, adding a wee bit of lore along the way. It doesn't need to be anything crazy and it isn't. It's so fast that it made me nauseous so I took brakes between every level, but it was more fun Doom gameplay in VR! Huge missed opportunity to not have Glory Kills in VR, like ik we're not the Doom Slayer himself but come on.

This was a challenging, fast-paced, and frantically fun VR adaptation of DOOM (2016), and I enjoyed staring down all the horrific monsters on Mars and blowing them to smithereens with a shotgun.

This is a great shooter, despite what most people say. This does have a huge asterisk that it needs to be configured using the in game console and a specific controller layout(and on index. good luck if on any other platform, though I do believe other fixes are out there) but it feels great once you're using that. It's fast paced, but skews a little easier. the narrative is weaker but the gameplay is much stronger than it gets credit for when modded. Frankly, at times it earns my second place to Doom 2016 out of the three since the reboot. It also includes a lot of little doomguy figures to collect to unlock classic doom levels, one of the few ways to make me play the OG doom... in VR and with this control scheme. It does have its visual shortcomings, and it's on the lower effort VR translations but it's mostly excusable, and it is its own game. I hope the lukewarm reception doesn't cancel out any future VR content from id, because I'd love to see further follow ups like this, but hopefully a little longer with better control options pre-implemented.

While the idea of a fast-paced shooter like Doom in VR is a dangerous idea, they made it work somewhat. The content itself is a rehashed Doom 2016, down to enemies, weapons, environments and music. Would really only recommend to hardcore Doom fans.
