One of the best Dragon Ball games
Being a huge fan of fighting games, I thought this would be my jam… And it sort of is? On the one hand, the fighting in this is fun and obviously very visually appealing, albeit quite confusing for a newcomer. But at the same time, everything outside of the battles I dislike. The ui, the menuing and strange tutorials, it all just felt a bit off for me. Maybe I’ll get back into this at some point, but for now it stays on the shelf.
Normally, this game stands as a solid B+ tier with a lot going for it. This is one of the few licensed games for Dragon Ball that, for the most part, lives up to the source material.
But when DLC for it comes out, it's automatically an F tier because Bamco and ArkSys cannot balance DBZ characters for shit. The new DLC character always ends up being the next giga broken thing on the block and everyone online always fiends that DLC character.
This is an awesome Dragon Ball experience and fighting game experience in general. It has beautiful graphics, gameplay, and art direction. The character roster is very good, and the characters have a very unique feel to them. The story mode is very repetitive and tiresome, and sometimes there are too many explosions happening (well, it fits the series, hahahaha). I feel that this game values online longevity over single player content, which is not for me personally. Overall, it's a very good Dragon Ball experience, and it's a must play for anime fans and fighting games in general. It's just not for me.
