The ugliest versions of Dragon Quest in one handy solution. Just wait for DQ III HD-2D remake and play the SNES/GBC versions of DQ I/II.

My first Dragon Quest games. Enjoyed seeing the roots of a the series, and I loved the turn-based combat and heavy exploration. The games offered a consistent but usually fair challenge and a high level of discovery. Learning how the games interconnected was neat.

These ports are not very good, a smooshed up mix of pixel art for backgrounds and character art from a discount mobile FTP game, so probably not the idea introduction to the series. But the core games were there, and they are great.

A very good collection and introduction into the Dragon Quest series. Pretty animations and sound and very accessible.

My reviews of each individual game are linked down below.

DQI is great and short, nice introduction to the series and early JRPGs as a whole;

DQII is just plainfully bad. You can force yourself through it but the last quarter or so is a grind fest that I can only recommend to hardcore fans or those who are really commited to finish all the mainline games;

DQIII although it is a great game, the version here isn't the best way to experience it, being it the Android remake that it is, it lacks basic stuff, like sprite movement in battle and a better presentation overall. Still a serviceable version, but not as good as the Snes one. There's a HD-2D remake coming up, so if you didn't play it yet, I'd recommend to skip this one until the new version comes out.

A great way to experience Dragon Quest I,II & III for modern systems. It was my introduction to the series and made me an a fan!
