What fans won't do for their series, right? After Square Enix's disregard for the West regarding everything related to DQX Offline, finally, a competent group of fans, utilizing a fan translation of the online version, implemented it into the offline version of the game. And even though it's not perfect, the result is quite competent, with main quest text closely matching the tone of the series' official games.

Regarding the game itself, I was a bit skeptical about the chibi characters, but it turned out to be a very pleasant experience, and the overall visual style of the game won me over in time.

The game itself is purely classic Dragon Quest, with a job system, simple turn-based combat but with cool and intense boss battles, and a system of mini-story arcs in each town you visit.

One thing that pleased me is that the game combines many good aspects of older games. For me, it has the best job system the series has ever had. The world's structure and story pace are reminiscent of Dragon Quest VII but much more streamlined and without as much bloat. It has the addictive weapon forging system from Dragon Quest XI, and the game also has a hint of the weapon leveling system from Dragon Quest VIII.

The story is straightforward, but I really enjoyed some arcs, and the game's structure that allows you to choose the order in which you want to tackle these stories within two overarching arcs is quite cool.

In the end, it offers what Dragon Quest does best: Perfection in its simplicity.

I played this game off and on since around January. Mostly as Japanese practice.

The character design alone drops this score a lot for me. That and how expensive it is. V1 and V2 are free on the online version and they're over $120 on the much worse looking and playing Offline version.

I thought the battles would be more fun but it feels like such a huge downgrade over the Online version. This whole game feels like a huge downgrade. (the voice acting is a welcome addition, though)

Please do yourself a favor and get DQX Online setup instead of playing this.

However, if you are interested in playing Offline in English, there is an early translation patch out as of today.

Information for both Online and Offline in English are in the Dragon Quest X Worldwide server https://discord.gg/dragonquestx

Due to an incurable brain disorder I am compelled to play any new DQ game, even if it's only available in Japanese. Well, I actually managed to finish this one despite the language barrier. I don't know what happened in it. I hope they localise it!
