I honestly was expecting a pretty boring quest line because I don't really feel that much connect to the majority of the scions and I thought that's what this would be about, but I was glad to be wrong. Here we see the ramifications of the death of the Archbishop and how people are unwilling to change. As well as setting up what I assume to be major antagonists that spark curiosity and excitement. I really enjoyed the dungeon where you fight alongside the story NPCs like Ser Aymeric, this was definitely more story and chatavter focused than content focused but I'm glad because I am very invested in the story and the characters of Ishgard. I'm glad to see man strive to make peace with dragons and continue that struggle. I also like how it really does show that you can't end a 1,000 year war in a day, because Nidhogg is still out there, and he has taken to the skies. I'm very excited for the next patch.

I'm starting to think there's some sort of conspiracy to gaslight new players into thinking that post-game patches are all mostly underwhelming. Seeing as how 2.1 was a fairly uneventful and slow patch, I expected the same trend moving forward, in that, at the very least, the x.1 patches would be more filler than anything of major substance. But how glad I was to be wrong. I'm just as surprised to see a general consensus among the reviews here that this is apparently mid. Couldn't be me!

Here we see the ramifications of the archbishop's death and of the people finding out the truth about the Dragonsong War, culminating in an uprising within the Holy See that made for some truly tense, nail-biting moments. After base Heavensward taught me suffering, I figured anyone is fair game to welcome death at this point, but I'm glad it did not come to that... this time.

Thancred's return is a welcome one, but a bit anticlimactic, I will say. If anything, the introduction of the Warriors of Darkness kind of overshadowed the reunion, and it's wild that that they're already trying to get me excited for Shadowbringers when I haven't even gotten to Stormblood yet.

Other important things to note:

- Alphinaud is a horndog. Poor lad just can't catch a break.
- Krile is a good potato.

New character introductions were great, havent got round to the new dungeon but I enjoyed this update a good amount

An absolute nothingburger of a patch. That's two underwhelming x.1 patches in a row, I hope it isn't a trend moving forward.

A bit of a slow start to the patches, but I'm curious to see where it goes from here. Sets up some neat plot hooks but doesn't do too much with the story and feels like its trying to find its footing after how insane the ending of Heavensward proper was

6.5/10

Patch 3.1 felt a little unfocussed, with the Warrior of Light being pulled from one seemingly important but inconclusive quest to the other.

The introduction of the Warriors of Darkness, for example, is interesting, but relies a bit too much on ominous implications to be truly gripping.

The return of another Scion feels weirdly anticlimactic, somehow.
