Juego agradable a la vista, buena música, los controles responden bien, los jefes de los niveles van aumentado su dificultad a medida que avanzamos, los patrones de ataque se van complejizando, un juego muy completo divertido y desafiante si se juega por primera vez.

AKA Havoc, or Captain Lang, or Cap'n Havoc or whatever, it's Sonic the pirate basically. A tough little platformer with a truly awful attack mechanic, the slash button is tied to jump, which means you'll miss hitting the enemy 90% of the time. Bounce around the decking collecting gems and treasure, that's all she wrote, pretty standard fair for a platformer of the period. Well animated, good concept, but poorly executed.

Ah, that must have been the big joke with Sega, that hedgehogs and seals and other animals are slow in real life but they gotta go fast when they’re in their games. I’m starting to understand why they also made Super Spazoid Snails and Thunder Tortoises Are Go!

Even in the mascot platformer craze around this time High Seas Havoc kinda sticks out as bootleg-feeling due to art style similarities with Sonic, but actually the game is pretty solid. Graphics are great, music's great, etc. Towards the end though, it starts to get really unfair. The last three worlds all kind of blow chunks, and I had to bring it down a point. No reason to skip this one though if you have higher bullshit tolerance than I do, it's not quite a hidden gem but it's both overlooked and pretty decent. Which was more than I expected initially, so all in all I'm pleasantly surprised.

One of the better fourth-gen mascot platformer games not called Sonic or Mario, this game has impressive visuals and sound, and for a game that can be best described as 'slower-paced Sonic', it plays quite well. But damn, is the knockback in this game ridiculous. Most of your deaths in this game will be from getting knocked back into spike pits during the harder platforming sections. It's still a great game, like I said, it excels in the technical aspects. But if you decide to play this game, be aware the kind of difficulty you'll be dealing with is of the cheap variety.

B+

Havoc is a mascot platformer from Data East exclusive to the Genesis, in which a mascot seal must rescue its family from an evil pirate walrus and his cronies. Graphics are a treat there, the game features some of the best animations we have seen for its detailed cartoony characters. The Gameplay plays like Super Mario Bros, collecting 100 "gems" to gain 1-Ups and jumping on enemy pirates, there is a lot of enemy variety with each level having its own special enemies, as well as the Walrus' henchman at the end of each level. The difficulty is quite easy, the target demographic was clearly children of a young age with an art style and gameplay reminiscent of the Magical Quest starring Mickey Mouse with a hint of Sonic the Hedgehog. The game features a scoring system, unfortunately without a leaderboard. Those who want a slower platformer will enjoy this one, we found it to be a wholesome experience with fair difficulty.
