JESUS: Kyoufu no Bio Monster

released on Apr 28, 1987

In the year 2061, a manned space mission was planned for Halley’s Comet, which would once again be nearing Earth. A team was assembled from eight countries around the world, and split into two spaceships for the mission, dubbed the “Nebula” and the “Corona.” They would depart from the Space Station Jesus. A primary objective of the mission was to collect gas samples from the tail of Halley’s Comet. These samples were to be gathered not only for the advancement of materials science or astronomy, but also to test the theory that life on Earth may have been seeded by comets. The knowledge the crew gained had the potential to solve one of the last enigmas of biology. Immediately after extracting the gas from the comet, however, communications from the spaceship Nebula mysteriously stop

A really engaging riff on Alien from the lens of a Japanese dev, JESUS is full of excellent visual design and initially compelling characters that loses steam fast in the face of incredibly clunky and unclear progression requirements and a tendency to throw characters to the wolves in an instant.

It really appealed to me in a way most adventure games from the NES can't, but after my fiftieth time "patrolling" the ship for threats I was overly eager to finally have the game finished.

Terror espacial curtinho e simples, bem linear, mas um guia ajuda a não se perder. Tem uma mecânica de recapitulação no final que gostei bastante. É engraçado ver as menções a Jesus.

lots of clever ideas both narrative and mechanical, really impressive use of color and sound design, super sleek presentation, just a blast all around. felt like such a breath of fresh air that it allowed itself to be on the talkier-side compared to the other famicom ADVs ive been playing. this is the first game of the bunch that really feels like it has a big, cinematic finale. im extremely impressed!!!!

Jesus in space! Hell yeah!

Well after 30 minutes, I can say that it’s quite mid.

Look at that title. Even better: the title screen has JESUS written in the colors of the lesbian flag.

It lost my interest within seconds, but that was worth it.
