jackbox is a pickup game -- everyone can figure out what's going on pretty much immediately and no one has to be that invested. do not pick this game up assuming the same will happen just because the mechanism by which the game works is the same. this game requires everyone to be paying very close attention and if there's one person in your game that's screwing around, it makes everything kind of miserable. it's a shame you can't pick teams.

I've played it with friends and on streams with just a few players to over a hundred and it's always been lots of fun! Character customization is fun, the artwork is stylized to be simple but beautiful, and the lore and story are excellent. Strongly recommend for anyone who enjoys party games, especially those with a role-playing element.

Playing a visual novel with a group of friends, debating choices and narrating silly character voices, is immense fun.
Taking that social experience and fleshing it out into a full game is a genuine stroke of genius. The strategy layer here has depth, giving an experience closer to a large-group boardgame than the more traditional visual novel group-read.

Highly recommend if you can get a group of 7 or more people together in a discord call or a living room.
