In Magic 2015, players are given the ability to create custom decks. As games are won and experience is earned, new cards of the player's choice are added to their collection. Players are also given the ability to open virtual booster packs to give more options when deck building, and the game gives assistance in creating decks.

What an absolute disappointment. I never got to try this at its peak, but from watching YouTube gameplay, it looked like it was the best of the Duels of the Planeswalker series. Definitely not.

First off, the game is pulled from shelves, and like the idiot I am, I bought a Steam key for $40. It’s not like there would have been $40 worth of entertainment in there, anyways, which brings me to my main point: the servers are shut down.

This is to be expected for a 9 year old game, but the problem is that I didn’t have access to any of the packaged DLC with the game I bought. In fact, half of the functionality of the game simply doesn’t work.

Because of this, building decks is much more of a slog than any other Magic experience I’ve ever played. Also, you better be careful with the color identity you choose at the beginning of the game, because you’re gonna be locked with that deck. Hopefully it’ll pull through for you, otherwise you’ll need to grind booster packs from the campaign AI.

What do you get from grinding packs, and trying to get a solid collection? Well, you can either play against campaign AI, or a randomized battle. No Planechase. No Archenemy. No Sealed. No gimmicky format of any kind, like the other titles in the series.

Absolute trash.
