A somewhat interesting attempt to distill the Megami Tensei formula into a more traditional fantasy JRPG setting but there simply was not enough effort put into this for it work. The 'monster' negotiations have been simplified into only 3 series of dialogue consisting of exclusively Yes or No questions where the correct answer is static and entirely dependent on the species of the monster which immediately tarnishes one of the most iconic aspects of the series. The combat is serviceable, feeling familiar to previous entries in the series, but is ultimately a bit too dumbed down to be properly enjoyable. The story might as well be non existent, but I could at least appreciate what they attempted to do with the world building. On the more positive side of things, I did burst out in laughter at some of the enemy designs, the OST was enjoyable, and some of the towns were surprisingly memorable with unique landmarks and lore surrounding them. I'm also fairly certain that this is the first Megaten game where your protagonist can use magic which is neat (I naturally went for an Endurance/Strength build regardless).

It's a fusion of Dragon Quest and Shin Megami Tensei. It could have been done better, but in the end, it's a very mediocre and simplistic game.

The only interesting aspect is the final battle against the all-powerful 'God' of the Megaten universe... and that's it; everything else is boring.

For the most part, this is kinda just a boring generic old school JRPG, I sorta had some fun with it, but it was also kinda brainless. I did sorta like how freaking BONKERS it got by the end, with you just randomly killing every god known to man.
