I'm racking my brain here but the only thing about this game that even comes close to being remarkable is that Yukihiro Takahashi, of YMO fame, was apparently the music supervisor for this, which means I guess I have to give the OST another listen sometime because ah... are you sure? If they never told me in the credits (my man was the first name that came up), then as far as I know I would have never guessed, from what I remember in the music.

Otherwise even from a YouTube watch I could tell there's nothing in here better than anything you can get in an early Ys, and now that I'm Marie Kondo-ing my backlog unfortunately this game is so-so enough to not make the cut as "something that might spark joy if I play it for real." I'm being ruthless here, folks. Not even the Xak series made it either.

Neugier is wonderful little (if very short) game. It’s one of those overhead action-RPG’s (with a heavy emphasis on action) similar to Zelda (actually, I think it’s closer to Lagoon, just a heck of a lot better, but then again Clu-Clu Land is a better game than Lagoon… ). The graphics aren’t exactly anything to write home about, but that’s okay because the fact that it is a completely fun game makes up for the graphics. The game follows the story of Duke, the banished son of the Count of Neugier who is returning home to investigate the sudden appearance of priates around his homeland. It’s pretty good game, it should be worth your time

Forty-third GOTW finished for 2023. The platforming and level design hurt this one, but I found myself mostly enjoying it nonetheless. The short runtime didn't hurt, though there wasn't much in the way of obvious stat progression. It felt an awful lot like playing an inferior version of an already existing Zelda clone (ala Centy).

Short and sweet zelda clone (even has a hookshot), finished in an afternoon. Some frustrating platforming at times.

À primeira vista achei que seria um jogo desafiador, mas não foi. É um ARPG básico e bom pra iniciantes no estilo. Lembra Zelda, mas só na aparência.
A mecânica de pular nas plataformas pode se tornar infernal algumas vezes.
Vale a pena conhecer? Sim. Vai fazer você se sentir um bom jogador.

-Story was standard and cliche.
-Game was too short to get attached to any characters or to build an interesting plot.
-Boss fights were cool but the last boss was very easy and disappointing.
-Very limited RPG mechanics.
-Pretty good music.
-Emulated using bsnes on Retroarch.
