Night Striker

released on Dec 31, 1989

Night Striker (ナイトストライカー) is an arcade game developed by Taito. It is a futuristic on-the-rails shooter which plays similarly to Sega's Space Harrier, though has you pilot a hover vehicle instead. The game was brought to the Sega Mega-CD in 1993, where graphically it was downscaled for the weaker hardware. It was also brought to the Sega Saturn as Night Striker S (ナイトストライカーS) in 1996 - essentially the same game, but with an extra "Saturn Mode" and a few small enhancements. No versions have ever left Japan.

Pure Taito adrenaline... filtered through the spiderman gb ign tweet filter.

This Sega CD version probably would be more recommendable if the visual compromise was in the asset loading pipeline instead of the rendering fidelity, if that makes sense. Something like Burning Force, fewer assets at a slower speed but it still matches the console's native resolution.

Cyberpunk Space Harrier with an OutRun level pathway system.

I love that there's multiple endings, none of which have proper grammar or spelling in their text scrolls

I've beaten this game a few times, but am not sure I could tell you what it was about

its like if you take the big 3 sega super scaler games and throw them in a blender. you got the path choosing of outrun, the gameplay of space harrier, and the visuals of after burner, all with zuntata in the background. Immaculate vibe. This is the good stuff.

[me, hooting and hollering in my head as I grip and rip this futuristic Space Harrier/OutRun-like]: “heck yeah.”

GOSH Night Striker was so dang cool. This is more or less just exactly Space Harrier But You're In A Flying Car but holy SMOKES the levels (it's an Outrun-esque pyramid path) look so so incredible oh lordy.

The levels look great, the feeling of speed feels wonderful, it just looks so so rad. Give this one a try.
