Really fun historical 4x game. A nice blend of civ with crusader kings character management.

it's True, I worked as a haty-a in Bubastis in a previous life (yea I'm "hyperborean", what of it..?)

What I love about this game, in comparison to Civ, is that oftentimes strategy has to be very long term and contingent on certain heirs and succession coming to fruition for both your civilization and others. You cannot switch tracks so easily, and there are a finite number of city sites available which inspires conflict.

However, I dont love how few ways to win there are. Realistically, there are just 3 ways to win and two of them are so intertwined with each other that there may as well just be two ways. Ambition victories seem very challenging and sometimes up to chance, so honestly I end up going for a points victory over and over again. The points victory can be hypothetically achieved without war, but you'd need to have a ton of cities and wonders built right off the bat. Unlike Civilization, virtually all victories here will be accomplished by stealing other big cities and wonders via war, which isnt a bad thing and certainly is fun on a strategy level, its just got less variety than its predecessor.

Where Civilization has religion as a means to a victory, Old World has it as a means to diplomacy. I actually love this change, I think religion in Civ ends up coming down to just spamming missionaries. I like that here, it evolves and is used strategically to boost diplomacy between nations and the opinion others in your families have of each other and you (the leader).

So mostly I love Old World. I love the new strategy elements, I love the unique art style and the potential for story and dramatic lineages, I love the titles and that being a dog owner makes other fellow dog owners fall in love with you more easily lol. I just wish there were one more path to victory I suppose.

Tudo de errado no gênero, misturado em um jogo.

i really like some of the ideas it brings to the table; i do not like it enough to actually finish a game.

I have not been this impressed with a Grand Strategy game in a long time. Takes old mechanics and systems passed by the genre and breathes new life into them in a very cool way. All the while, the addition of people and stories provides interest through the duration of a game. Excited to keep playing!
