Pac-Man: Party Royale

released on Oct 18, 2019

A brand-new arcade experience featuring a four-player Battle Mode where the last PAC-MAN standing wins. "Challenge your friends in this brand new PAC-MAN game, mixing the instant fun of arcade retro-gaming with a multiplayer experience. Play our 4 Players Battle Mode, and be the last PAC-MAN standing to win the rounds! Eat PAC-DOTS to gain speed and catch the Super Pellet first, and see your friends and the ghosts running away from the random Power-Up you got from the classic Energizer, to the brand new L.A.S.E.R. and Electric Field! Be careful, the more PAC-MAN you eat, the more Ghosts there will be, and they will try to get revenge on those who ate them! Also beware of Itchy, a new Ghost poisoning you on touch with a random negative effect. Players who became ghost can come back as PAC-MAN if they manage to eat another PAC-MAN: don't give up on victory and get back in the fight! But beware the 256-glitch ! If there is no winner soon enough, the maze will start to collapse on you and the safe area will shrink until there is only one PAC-MAN left!"

Coming from playing over 100+ battle royale matches and 3-starring every level in the Adventure mode, I honestly think this is a really good Pac-Man game! Game flow in the regular game mode feels super well and it proves well for those fully understand Pac-Man's regular game mechanics. I've played over 100+ matches of the regular Battle Arena game mode (at the second Crystal rank) and the gameplay style feels well to play through; short and sweet and it's fun to push other players to their doom. The Adventure mode was also surprisingly nice too, somehow had more variety in goals than any other Pac-Man maze game I've played to date, though I did take breaks in-between.
The visual style is a very odd choice but I will say it's a lot better in motion; the animation quality is super good and the way how the Pac-Man and ghosts react to each other when they get near is cute; general movement for the characters is super smooth and fluid, probably even more than Pac-Man Party. Love the ability to customize your character as well.
A few iffs I have are the way unlockables are presented; you lose your season unlockables after every day and you have to grind to unlock them again, so it really makes unlocking the things pretty pointless. Another thing I do wish the game did was put more of the advanced features from the Quick Play mode into the Battle Arena mode, since the game with just the regular maze features gets stale a bit after a lot of gameplay. A shame this one's an Apple Arcade exclusive because this one is pretty fun.
