Snapshot is a puzzle platformer that uses pictures to pickup and move objects around to get past obstacles or solve puzzles. The game has 4 worlds to progress through with around 100 levels overall. Each level has a hidden collectible object, a set amount of stars to pick up, and a time trail to beat.

If you check the reviews on Steam, you'll see that the top two complaints for Snapshot are that it introduces new ideas too often and that it goes on for too long. So, if you like your platform puzzle games short and repetitive: go. Get out. This one's not for you.

However, if you like low-key, clever puzzles that don't deep dive into long, complex chains and are generally just down to have Kyle Pulver excitedly show you all the little ideas he had about how to build a game around a camera? Come on in.

Levels are short, fun. The robot controls well, which is good, because there's no checkpoints. Difficulty is a bit uneven, some more dexterity based challenges early on, and you can definitely tell that a little steam was lost toward the end as collectibles are hidden in less clever nooks and crannies. Those later levels tend to layer their mechanics a bit more, though, so it balances out.

Most importantly, Snapshot is perfectly content to let you solve things incorrectly, the hallmark of a fun, physics-oriented puzzler. And sometimes that wrong way turns out to be the right one, the sort of thing that feels like an exploit. Even better. Look at you. So clever.

A simple indie platformer. The core mechanic is interesting and used in various clever ways as you progress through the game.

My main complaint would be how fiddly some sections are. For example I completed the game but still never worked out the specifics of magnet placement.

After a while I felt discouraged from attempting the side objectives knowing that messing up would make me have to redo the difficult or time consuming platforming I had already done.

Yup... it's an indie platformer alright.
