Some Distant Memory

released on Nov 13, 2019

You play as the Professor, on a mission to find the sunken city of Houston. Things have been getting worse for the few surviving colonies of Earth as their resources dwindle and a corrupting algae bloom threatens all that remains. For years you've been systematically exploring the wastes without any sign of the ruins. Your main companions on your mission are ARORA, an AI who's been humanity's guiding lantern since the Collapse, and the Commander, an explorer newly charged with keeping you safe. Everything changes when you fall into the ruins of an ancient house. As you explore, the memories of the people who lived there come to life with the help of ARORA's Memory Reconstruction system. Uncover hints about what happened to civilization, discover strange artifacts, and discover the secrets of the family whose tomb you've raided. And then find a way out.

Honestly came into this game with low expectations but it is actually really good!

Although it's a short game I really enjoyed the story.

I actually really enjoyed this game, it was kind of like a walking simulator with a very interesting story and lovely atmosphere. The gameplay elements were very simple: scan, walk to a scanned item, investigate, repeat until memory is available and then you watch that memory play. rinse and repeat.

The story was really good and interesting, kind of wished there was more in the game than what there already was. I really liked how the characters grew in the short amount of time and it was just fantastic.

This game successfully manages to be surprisingly poignant and thoughtful. It gets you to think on many different ideas, from Artificial Intelligence to artistry and business, but it mostly centers around humanity’s desire for love and connection, and how humans thrive with family.
