Really good game. Made a lot of improvements but it's not yet 100% better than the first one.
Early Access Review after Patch 01.
Kelvin is a gift send by god and deserves to be protected at all cost. He is so insanely helpful, you can let him collect resources or finish your blueprints. Virginia or as me and my friends call her "turret" is also very helpful at defending the base. We encountered so many hilarious moments not all of them were features but all of them created by Kelvin, it has been a while since we laughed so much in a video game. I absolutely love the new building mechanic it's so enganging and never gets boring. It's probably the best building system ever, you can be so creative and do so much with it. But it took me a while to understand how it works but once you get it you have so many possibilities.
The performance is okay but I was stuck on 30 FPS no matter how much I changed the settings and my PC isn't that bad. Some features that already existed in The Forest are missing like boats and other buildings blueprints which is excusable since this is a Early Access game. But Patch 01. was really great and gave me hope that the Devs will fix problems, optimized the game and add more building options.
At the time of writing this review, The Forest is still better but I'm 100% certain that when Endnight continues to deliver great patches like Patch 01. that Sons of the Forest will surpass it's predecessor. Because the graphics and animations are beautiful, the building system is the best and most satisfying building mechanic of all survival games. The caves and nights are absolutely terrifying and the story is also really interesting, I really want to know where this is going.
Still needs much needed updates, still buggy, still in early access, but the content is mostly there and it's just a better version of The Forest.
it's fun if u play with friends but thats all, some improvements are definitely needed
Paying thirty dollars for an early access, buggy, short-as-hell game is kind of absurd. If you're the type of player who is drawn to single-player or story-driven games, definitely steer clear of this. However, if like me you have a small group of friends who are into these sorts of survival sandbox horror-esque games and you've pretty much already mastered 7 Days to Die, this is worth a shot I think, especially if you can wait and get it on sale for 15$ or so. It is not the deepest game out there, but I'll be honest, exploring the caves and bunkers is fun, and so is building bases with cat ears.
