I cant lie, this has all the makings of a rather mediocre indie game, this boxy pseudo-64-bit artstyle is usually a bad sign. But there are several design choices that elevate this into a much more interesting and evocative snippet of an experience than its risky choice of survival mechanics and melodramatic writing would have otherwise lent itself to.

It's a small game about a journey. Playing it made me feel...serene? I don't know if that is the right word, but sailing across the islands, catching fish and swimming to collect the lost souls in the seemingly endless ocean definitely has a calming albeit sometimes melancholic effect. The beautiful music, even though it is simple, enhances the experience. The game is (iirc) inspired by Earthsea series by Ursula K. Le Guin, and I love the books! The game certainly has that vibe, which is an extra point for me.

It's not a game for everyone, but those looking for a short and sweet experience should check this out.
