Super Neptunia RPG

released on Dec 20, 2018

There was once a primitive form of entertainment software that ruled the world: 2D games. In one of infinite dimensions, the world of Gamindustri exists... a world where 2D games reign supreme. An organization fiercely devoted to these games rules over this vibrant world. They are known as Bombyx Mori and their devotion comes with a heavy price. Citizens of Gamindustri are forced to offer 2D games to Bombyx Mori as taxes. Those who dare to use new technologies or create games that don’t meet their standards risk being banished to the Trial Grounds. It is in this Gamindustri, a dark world with no real future in sight, that a girl wakes from her sleep. Her name is Neptune, and with a strange book in hand, she sets off on the journey of a Hero.

Currently replaying on PC after finishing it on PS4 years ago. Not very good tbh, wish the map was less confusing and it was less boring

So... first western developed nep. The artstyle was very good and it pains me that the game just sucks in almost every aspect. It almost plays like a mobile gacha game honestly. Really it just being a nep game and the good art style are the only things giving it a 3. I blame canada

I really love how this game looks but the fighting system is so BORING that it made me quit this game. I don't want to play with this again despite my love for this franchise, and altough I love spin-off games this 2D uninspired fight system feels incredibly slow and it's a lackluster

Been a while since I played this, but its an interesting enough experiment of a game to talk about. Neptunia RPG is basically a jankier Indivisible, which is in turn a jankier Valkyrie Profile. Neither of these have the depth of the latter, but Indivisible at least holds up as a high profile indie game. Neptunia RPG essentially paid environment artists to make some gorgeous backdrops, and the rest of the money was spent throwing together the cheapest excuse for a JRPG I've seen. Imagine if your typical Idea Factory copy paste RPG was built from the ground up as a new genre, with the same budget as a hacked out sequel. Thats what this is. A third party newcomer studio made up of artists and not much else made this super cheap. The backdrops are good, but thats it. Animations feel horrible and objects are just slapped onto the backgrounds. The combat is just button mashing tedium. Side quests shouldnt even be here, since the main story is less memorable than most JRPG fetch quests.

Super Neptunia RPG is like a puppy who pissed on the rug, and just looks at you endearingly to clean it up. And you will because anyone playing this is a sucker for Neptune.
