I remember when this game was announced and being very confused, thinking thtat somehow Bandai Namco tried to capitalize on the Fall Guys hype two years too late. I discovered there was a free version of the game that allows you to play in rooms but not create your own, so somehow I managed to convince my friends to play a few rounds as a bit of an ironic "haha bootleg fall guys" sort of fun.

Upon getting my friends together with the game all downloaded we then were not very surprised to learn that nobody was playing it, and since there were no rooms, none of us could join anything. So I went to the official discord and snooped around, to discover that the mods of the server/potentially the devs? were more than happy to make a room for me and my friends to join and play the game with. Absolute homies.

The basic gameplay loop revolves around quiz questions being asked to everyone, where answering decides which side of a deathrun you are on. Answer incorrectly, and your dude has to go through an obstacle course getting shot at by other dudes. Answer correctly, and your dude gets to be the one shooting the runners. Between rounds there is an open shop area where you can buy various perks and upgrades for your dude to assist in either the shooting or the running sections.

The aesthetics of this game are also really rad. Sure, it does look like bootleg fall guys at first glance, but the key art def gives me the kind of colorful early 2000s B-game vibe and the main mascot/announcer of the game is this pastel-colored 90's anime girl. The soundtrack is also insane, with songs from both long-standing Bamco composers as well as new talent. Looking into this game more I discovered that it's part of an initiative from Bandai Namco to foster smaller indie teams of new members to make creative projects with a bit of actual financial backing, and that's absolutely something I can get behind.

I went into this game expecting a cheap laugh and ended up being surprised by how much soul the game actually contains. Did I mention there's no microtransactions or battle passes? Considering the fact this is an online-only game with not much of a playerbase its not really the most practical thing to play, but it's still certainly a good time and honestly a better time than the games that it resembles IMO.
