I don't want to be too mean about this since it's a free game and it's clearly a passion project, but it just didn't click for me.

At first I was excited because there seemed to be no obvious "oooh scary monster chases you!", which is my biggest turn off in any backrooms or liminal space inspired media. And it was really cool! The environments are diverse enough, the giraffes are cute and there's sort of a plot happening. Then the mannequins turned into oooh scary mist monster and I clocked out mentally.

The ending was fine and the CYOA twist was pretty good, but the SCP reveal kind of soured things for me once again. I really love SCP, I think mixing backrooms and SCP makes sense (backrooms wiki lore is just worse SCP anyways), but this is the coldest, most generic, most boring take on the foundation ever. They're cold and they do unethical experiments and terminate their D-class. Really? What is this, series 1?

Overall an okay experience compared to a lot of other backrooms media, but it just wasn't for me.

Let it be said that I don't actually enjoy Backrooms games all that much: I find them dull and mostly repetitive. A lot of them simply drop you off at the world's worst Ikea and throw a bunch of screeching monsters at you which is... not a great concept in my opinion.

However, The Backroom: Lost and Found actually brings something new to the table - interesting mechanics, an unusual plot and a surprisingly endearing cast of miniature giraffes (?). I actually found myself replaying it once to check out the other endings.

Sure, the environment is a bit ugly (in typical Backrooms style) but it is clear that the devs put a lot of thought into this. I never expected to be emotionally invested in a game like this but I was. Granted, this won't change your life but it is a wonderful (free!) experience and a great way to spend a few hours.

It’s very worthy for a free game, I’ll say right away that I’m not familiar with the "Backrooms" lore, I only played the original game for about 5 minutes and didn’t understand anything, I was interested that because the descritotion says about some kind of the story, though don’t expect anything special, we have a room with a fireplace in which 3 toy giraffes lived, and we need to find each, son, mom, dad in the backrooms, the fact is that the room has the ability to move in space with us, and, when another family member is found, our "vehicle" will be upgraded... Dialogues here in 1 line, but at the end you will face a plot twist, [spoiler] although a little dishonest, because no one told us that collecting secrets gives something, on the other hand, someone will be interested in replaying the game because of this. [spoiler]
What surprised me in the first place was the very high quality effects and animations, I don’t know, of course, maybe these are some default particles from the Unreal "editor", but everything looks very solid, the horror elements are also not bad, although veterans of "indie horror" they are unlikely to scare. The instructional inscriptions are also cool.
