I’ll always be a sucker for some pinball in virtually any context, but this has absolutely nothing new to offer after unlocking everything—which only takes a couple hours, especially if you invest in certain OP skills early. A key element of roguelikes as a genre (and pinball, for that matter) is that they need to have enough mechanical variety to keep repeat runs from feeling like replays of the same game, and The Pinball Wizard…doesn’t. And like fellow Apple Arcade killer app Grindstone, it’s streamlined in all the wrong areas. For example, after a Daily Dungeon, why does it take a minimum of twenty seconds to tally up loot and experience, add them up to your total score, display the leaderboard, and let you back in for another try? I’ve had runs that didn’t even last that long!

Short but not expensive. Fun to play. Too bad there aren't any more levels.

It was okay but nothing memorable. The idea behind the game is good but there’s a lot of missed potential due to the game’s short length, lack of varied gameplay elements and asset re-use. The first few floors are pretty much the same with all 21 floors. Daily mode and dungeon mode rehashes the same assets to lengthen the game but it’s not exciting when you’ve seen everything in the main game mode. There are also cheap ways to die so the game takes longer to beat. It still took me around 1 hour and 20 minutes to beat the boss. There are many skills that I haven’t unlocked but what’s the point? This is supposed to be the grindy part to make the game longer too but it’s not worth it. I’m not big on pinball games, so others might feel differently. It might be worth a try but don’t expect much.

Nifty! The pit-pat-pit-pat of your smol wizardfeet as you bumble around the dungeon is max-level adorable.

For a game about a wizard, though, I wish they’d come up with a flashier and more diverse slate of active spells. It’d be cooler if you were putting points into a custom build instead of just riding the first two skills (dash & orb) through the whole game.

Solid for mixing pinball and roguelite elements. However, the game is really short, I had a glitch near the end where parts of the UI vanished, and the physics can be egregious. The worst example is with late game levels that have ramps, stairs, etc. You aren't stuck on the ground and can get airtime. Dashing in these circumstances is borderline suicidal, since if you dash up even the smallest incline, you can get sent flying and out of bounds, which can lead to really cheap damage/death.

5/10 - Good game concept with neat elements, but short and kinda broken.

I truly enjoyed this game. It’s charming and delightful. I do think that the camera needs work because when falling between floors, I die to things I haven’t see yet.

As a rouge lite, I found it fun. It was short but it had gimmicks I was find of. If you like pinball or rouge lites, definitely give it a shot, especially if you have Apple Arcade.
