the sims 3 showtimes uglier younger sister

Part 1: The LA world
This pack only offers three neighbourhoods. The first one is basically Beverly Hills, where you can live in a gigantic mansion on top of the city. This is great (the CAS and build mode also offers a bunch of stuff for the omega rich, like the money vault). The second one is the typical LA suburbs, with not enough lots and nothing at all to do. This is mediocre. The last one is the downtown area, which looks nice, but it only offers stuff we already had (the discos now have VIP areas but nobody is ever inside them), plus an unexciting award ceremony bar. This is kinda bad. And then… that’s it. All you can do in the world is live in the middle class area, or the omega rich area, and go to the ugly ass downtown area where there’s nothing interesting to do. The world is really missing a Santa Monica neighbourhood with some coastal bars and places to live, an accessible beach, and a nice carnival with a ferris wheel. Maybe the reason this wasn’t included is because swimming in natural bodies of water was introduced just after this pack in Island Living (the carnival was introduced in High School Years many years later). But even if they couldn’t be bothered to introduce the ocean in this pack, they should have included more stuff to compensate. This world is hella empty.

Part 2: The careers
One of the biggest selling points is the acting career, which, alongside the careers from Get to Work, is fully playable, and might be the best of the hands-on careers ‘cause it’s the one that feels more involved and realistic. There’s also two unofficial careers, meaning that you buy a special computer set-up and start doing them without being officially employed. These are the music producer career and the Youtuber career. I haven’t tried the first one, but being a Youtuber inside the sims is pretty decent, there’s a drone system and everything. My main problem is that my sim started earning way too much money, like $4000 a day without even trying. Sometimes you get nominated for an award, so if you travel to the lot at a specific time your sim can earn a trophy and such, it’s a cool thing to do.

Part 3: The fame system
The fame system is similar to the one in The Sims 3. You gain fame mainly with the new careers (especially acting), but fame is included in every aspect of the game (you gain fame by selling paintings and shit like that). When you see a celebrity on the street, it’s very hard to talk to them (you basically have to repeat the same dialogue choices over and over until you get the regular dialogue tree, it’s not that interesting). When you are a celebrity yourself, you can sign autographs, and you get annoying paparazzis, stuff like that. There’s also the fame skill tree (inspired by the one created for vampires) so your famous sims get extra benefits, but also annoying kirks like getting addicted to their phones. It’s good stuff.

Part 4: The reputation system
I actually thought this was included in the base game for free. Basically speaking, your sims can have a good reputation (by being friendly), or a bad reputation (like being mean) and they get different benefits from each side of the scale (the negative reputation also has downsides, like making it harder to make friends).

Part 5: Conclusion
Visiting LA, or moving my young country sims there and making them become famous actors, and the fame and reputation systems, are things that are bound to come up in my style of gameplay. There are some big holes in the product, but also some nice benefits that we had never experienced in the franchise. It’s a pack that could have been so much more, but it’s nice to have it around.

Meh. Sí, tenés la carrera de actuación pero la fama como en la vida real, es molesta.
