"DIE!"

Yeah, this is a Simple Series game. Just look at the PS1 graphics (a notable improvement over the barely-comprehensible Sniper 1). Losers, set your expectations low. Kusoge fans, come on in! I nearly dropped this game at Stage 08, but now having completed it I can say its the Simple Series game for me (I sadly did not jive with the immaculately titled Maid Uniform & Machine Gun). The Sniper 2 is a full package: "animated" cutscenes, Grandia-esque voice acting, entirely unearned plot twists, AND almost playable sniping sections!

Mockery aside, I do enjoy everything this game is doing. Y'all can whine about the midi instruments, but Tsukasa Masuko was serving up nothing but jazzy bangers. These are the stankiest horns this side of Death Crimson! So you know the game's already got me hooked. It's got some swanky noir-y flair with the fonts and photos on the menus too- menus you'll probably be seeing often, unless you're great at aiming a reticle that actively fights to get away from your targets. The whole of the crime-drama aesthetic framing is beyond enjoyable. I love the touch of adding an opening and credits before every level like its a TV show, makes the whole thing feel super cozy. The little 3D sniper outposts are quite cute too. What's less cozy 'n cute is the actual shooting, which consists of wrestling your analog sticks and firing horridly delayed bullets as your controller vibrates itself out of your grip. Frustrating though it may be, the gameplay never lasts long and is MORE than worth it to see the full story. The plot twists are insane. Watch the good ending (where Gabriel doesn't disappear) if you didn't get it in your playthrough.

I had a blast with this. I'll probably replay it soon. Only good vibes~

I finished this in one sitting. In related news I apparently hate myself.

Tuned into Maradona playing this game and within like 10 seconds I was able to identify that it was a Simple 2000 series game, with no prior context. IDK man these games are just fucking funny.

In a 2009 interview with Tobuscus Gaming, award winning game director Hideo Kojima stated that Metal Gear Solid 3 "The End" boss fight was heavily inspired by the hit PS2 classic: The Sniper 2, which marked his childhood.

" The fact that he can die of old age, symbolizes how I felt waiting for The Sniper 3. I still am. Really. " - says Kojima, while holding back tears. The interview ended shortly after.
