Trouble Witches Origin is a pretty fun schmup with cutesy visuals, tight gameplay, good OST, and a lot of replay value for a definitive release. 10 characters to boot (5 base game, 5 DLC, I bought Cotton cause she's cool) which is pretty nuts.

I really enjoyed the inventiveness of the Magic Square mechanic. Having the ability to slow bullets down to weave through tight patterns was cool, and I also liked the massive reward of cash when you slow down enemy/boss phase bullets and eliminate them. Very addicting. I also really like the inclusion of a shop system during gameplay, it definitely spiced up strategy on a per level basis.

This release has some hiccups though. While I did find the story mode entertaining in ways, a lot of it was unintentional cause of the screwy translation. Grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors a-plenty! It was alright with Cotton though. She and Silk's dynamic from their series was preserved nicely, and I chuckled a lot with Cotton's banter towards the boss witches in the game's Story Mode.

Options are kinda limited too. You can't play the game in full screen. There is an option for it, it can be toggled, but it leads to the game crashing so you're forced to play the game windowed (at one size). Maybe there's a workaround for full screen? I wouldn't know, couldn't really find anything about that unfortunately.

Overall, I still recommend this game if you like schmups, or if you want to get into the genre. This game is pretty easy & approachable. Just be wary of the limited options and screwed up translation.

It's fun and Cotton is here and the shop is a neat little magical chase reference.

Trouble Witches has 2 mechanics which I think differentiate it from other shoot em ups. The first is the magic circle which slows downs green and purple projectiles and clears them from the screen if the enemy shooting them is defeated while the power is active or, alternatively, turns them into more dangerous homing yellow bullets if the enemy escapes.
The second one are spells which are consumables sold by the pumpkin sisters whose shop is available 2-3 times per level. Spells are like bombs in other games, clearing projectiles around the player. They also provide a free hit and upgrade the player's weapon for a brief period of time.
I think both mechanics combined incentivize the player to be more aggressive in general in contrast to other shoot em ups where it's more efficient to focus almost purely on dodging. Boss fights also lack time limits and with the right timing it's possible to trivialize some phases.
Obviously the art style is very characterizing of the title as well, every single sprite is clear and colorful, and the tone is generally lighthearted. Each playable character comes with a fully voiced story mode, but the english translation is hilariously bad. It's around the same "engrish" level as the store description.
Overall, I believe the game is pretty good. I don't think it's the best shoot them up for a newcomer, but there's an easy mode and infinite credits so it's not the worst either. I did get a bit sick from the over the top voice acting though.

This is a fun and incredibly adorable shmup that's the definitive release of Trouble Witches Neo. It has 10 total characters (5 in-game, 5 DLC characters) as well as other visual improvements and some game modes while dropping the awful English voice-acting from Neo. It's not a very difficult shmup either.

If you enjoy shmups and cute stuff, you'll be right at home here.
