Windlands

released on Mar 28, 2016

A first person grappling hook exploration game. Soar through the ruins of a fallen civilisation and discover the secrets of the ancient world. Windlands has been developed primarily for Virtual Reality headsets, but is also a great experience for those without headsets. It appeals to those who want to explore the breathtaking vistas at a relaxing pace, while the challenging routes attract gamers who like to master the skill of soaring through the towering environments at top speed.

i have no intentions of beating this but i did like the atmosphere when i played it, it was an enjoyable time but far superseeded by its successor. although they have very different vibes, this one is more of an "im alone" vibe and the sequel is more of a story. idk

This was the first VR game I ever played. I remember when I first grappled and pulled myself up I nearly fell over. I got my VR sea-legs that day.

Windlands is still a satisfying ride in 2021, a colorful 3D platformer with easy-to-pick-up swinging mechanics and a brief (but sprawling) campaign that teaches you how to manage momentum to a surprising level of depth. It's also a pretty good way to get your VR sea legs, since over the course of my time with it I went from having to play in 20-minute segments (before I'd get too tense and borderline-nauseous) to spending over an hour in the game per session without difficulty.
