World of Dragon Warrior: Torneko - The Last Hope

Torneko: The Last Hope is a single player RPG title that revolves around the chubby merchant from Dragon Warrior IV as he sets out on an adventure to rid the town of all the monsters. The story unfolds in the village as you interact with the town's inhabitants and gather information to help you in your quest. The action mode will have you fighting monsters and collecting items while traveling through the dungeon. Dungeon floor plans change every time they are revisited, and other changes may occur depending on actions taken by Torneko and the monsters. After you get past the first few dungeons, you'll be able to store items you've found in your storage shed. Find arrows, clubs, swords, shields, staves, safes, scrolls, pots, herbs, bread and rings so that Torneko can heal and defend himself, and make sure to keep Torneko well fed with bread or he'll lose strength. Torneko: The Last Hope also features claymation full motion video sequences, turn-based combat, and over 100 items to find.

Takes Torneko 1 and adds in a series of tutorial dungeons, a bunch of monsters with really obnoxious abilities, some Shiren mechanics it really didn't need, and harsher scaling that makes the final dungeon almost impossible without bringing in outside items. And somehow, the controls are less responsive.

Not really a mystery dungeon or rogue like guy but this was some good dungeoning. Also an absolute corker of an opening animation. Please watch it here

Was very interesting to see how an older Mystery Dungeon game played. Solid game that holds up well but newer MD games definitely improved upon the formula. Clay style animations were cool.

Great game, really fun. Didn't mind having to redo dungeons to farm items and grind weapons up, but overall felt like something was missing to keep it from 9/10/

i dunno. seems like i should like this game a lot more than the original, considering how much more fleshed out it is... but the result feels messier and less balanced to me. the first one had a simplicity and focus that made it very compelling - just a quintessential crystallization of the roguelike applied to a dragon quest spinoff, with all the challenge and charm one might expect. they really got it right the first time. will return to this another time, but for now... i'm gonna move on.

I think the Mystery Dungeon series start here. Cute roguelike based on the best DQ game but the polish just wasn't there yet.
