Excellent companion to an already arguably perfect, exceedingly polished but humble title. The original sold very modestly for a first party release. The Switch port got enough free enhancements, as is. Yet Nintendo EPD came back for more, for no reason other than because designing these little hakoniwa levels is as irresistible as playing them.
That's what I would've said, if they didn't have a little sadomasochistic goodbye party to the project by including a fucking roguelike final level whose bonus objective is so obscenely tedious that I felt like I beat fucking Dark Souls from hell when I managed to escort those three little shithead toads to level 30. Fuck you Nintendo.

I really liked this DLC. It used the best parts of the game and added some additional levels. I loved a lot of the levels and I think they're some of the best in the game overall. I really liked how even though they were added on, they all still felt wildly different compared to the base game, which made them even more fun to experience.
I was feeling tired earlier today and didnt feel like playing something that would use too much energy and I remembered that I never played this random piece of DLC that Nintendo put out like 2 years ago. (It’s so weird that this even came out, I guess it was to help push the update that allowed Co Op and reignite interest, but it was still like out of nowhere lol) Captain Toad is so relaxing to just mellow out to and take things easy, but this isnt a review of the base game. This Special Episode is pretty inoffensive, but its also just kind of there. There are 18 Courses, but most of them are remixes, with only 5 being wholly Unique. The new ones are fun, and the ones where you gotta piece together the crowns are enjoyable too. The weird amount of Boo ones though aren't that great and all feel samey. Overall its pretty down the middle, its just something to turn your brain off to for 2 hours and relax. The last level is pretty fun though and if a Captain Toad sequel is ever made, expanding on that idea and making it into an endless survival mode of floor after floor, collecting as many coins as you can, could be REALLY fun. That last level brings this up half a star.
100% complete (all gems and bonus achievements), aside from Chaos in the Grand Labyrinth. Much more substantial than I was expecting, the Special Episode DLC was a great reason to return once again to the charming Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker - this is about the same length as one of the episodes from the base game. Although the majority of the 18 new challenges take place in existing maps, the varied objectives make the experience feel fresh, while the five new wholly new maps are impressively detailed and imaginative.
