An incredible action-platformer with some beautiful pixel art and animations. The platforming wasn't too challenging but very engaging. The story was fun and easy to follow. I highly recommend this game to anyone who really loves classic platformers!

No geral ótimo, vale super a pena.

impecavel, 10/10

A fun platformer/brawler. The game constantly introduced new mechanics such as elemental weaponry and ridable steeds, which helped make every world diverse. Certain platforming gauntlets and puzzles were quite fun to solve, and the combat was often enjoyable. It was quite enjoyable to swap between the different weapon types, whether to take advantage of an enemy's weakness or simply to experiment.

I did feel as though the super form, while fun and powerful, was a bit too simple. It's very easy to just spam the attack button until the meter runs out without giving it much thought. While certain upgrades can be purchased to alter the super form, more options unlocked by default would have helped. The story also felt a bit undercooked. The rival's character arc felt rushed, but at least she talked, as opposed to the main bosses. I enjoyed seeing the dog grow stronger and stronger as the game went on, but a final payoff was absent.

Flynn is generally enjoyable to control and the game looks great. The length of the game at 7hrs to 100% is short for the genre, but that's not a dealbreaker. My big problem with this game is the extreme lack of enemy variety that makes experimenting with the game's combat totally pointless. Staggers, environmental hazards, unlockable combos and weapon switching could provide the basis for a rewarding combat system, but they don't.

Flynn does very little to make itself stand out and I felt like the first enemies and platforming sections with any interesting ideas didn't appear until the final area. If you've played any other action-platformer then this game has no surprises for you.

Beat the whole game just in case it got better.
It didn't.

Flynn is a very typical action adventure where you unlock new moves, weapons and skills along the way. It's not going to win any awards for originality. You know what to expect with those kind of games. However, the one thing that stood out to me was the game's soundtrack. It's beautiful and moving. The game's pixel graphics are also pleasing to the eyes. The battle system shows its true potential when you unlock more options in the second half of the game. The challenge was good enough but it might be perceived as too easy for others. There are some hidden collectibles and optional challenges. The length felt just right. Pick it up when you feel like playing those kind of games, but don't expect a genre redefining game or the best of its kind. It's just fine.

Really enjoyable action platformer that doesn't over stay it's welcome.

nice pixel art and soundtrack, solid mechanics, but just feels pretty bland after half an hour or so. Doesn't seem like a bad 2D platformer by any means, but doubt I'll come back to this one before it leaves Game Pass.

also, performance is weirdly stuttery on PC and I'm not sure why

bland, boring, and generic

Very basic game that really didn't have anything notable. Needed more bosses that were actually hard as the entire game was way too easy.

I really enjoyed this game, it's very simple. The gameplay's fun and the sprite art is really pretty. The combat can really be boiled down to just spamming half the time though, even with the combos you get. The fact that they cost a chunk on a meter makes it so you probably won't use them even more. I don't even mind this though, I still had a good time cause the game makes it satisfying to play. What was more frustrating to me was dodging enemy attacks. When Flynn performs a dodge roll, he glows white when he can do it again, and the enemies also glow white when they're about to attack. With basically half of the weapons being close combat, it's very easy for it to just be a flashing mess and have it be hard to see when they'll attack. You'll have to just understand how fast the enemies attack beforehand if you wanna be able to dodge correctly. This is a pretty big part of the gameplay so having this be an issue is kinda :/

I don't know if this was an issue for others but I didn't mind the Scourges that occur throughout the game. They provided harder challenges to old levels and never felt like a drag or interruption to me.

Besides those, I really liked the spectacle the game has for a gameplay style so simple, I would always finish a level just thinking how cool it was. The music especially is so atmospheric and adds alot to this experience. I'm glad I backed this!!! Comfy game

Nice platformer. Fluid combat, exceptional pixel art, clever level design, very cool bosses.

I was actually very surprised by how cool this game is, overall a great experience.

I really wanted to like this, but the game feel is just off.

Flynn is so slow in comparison to every enemy you encounter. You move slow. You charge magic slow. You swing your sword slow. The result is that combat never feels fun. It's never outright bad, but it only seems to range from tedious to frustrating.

It's a shame because it's otherwise a well made game. It looks great, sounds great, and runs great. I just wish it played great too.

vou fazer uma review no meu canal do yt ksks @rafaiel07

A average to good game. None of the aspect of the game is bad, but none is great either.

A rather mediocre experience but not one I regret. The high point of the game is definitely the pixel art which is gorgeous. The rest though is just alright. The level design does get a bit interesting in the last third of the game, but by then the game is just about over. The only aspect of the game I would call outright weak is the combat. It feels a bit off in general, and most of the enemies can be taken care of with the same basic strategy. Overall, I’d say it’s worth playing if you are in the mood for a more relaxed platformer that is extremely forgiving.

Very good action platformer. Combat was very good. May play again just because of that.

Flynn: Son of Crimson

Flynn: Son of Crimson is a solid action platformer.

In Flynn: Son of Crimson the player controls Flynn, a young boy who has a pet magical dog. Flynn like his dog has magical abilities and early on in the game he is forced to set out on an adventure to reclaim the magic that exists across his country.

The story is just a vehicle to progress and evolve the gameplay which is the best part of Flynn: Son of Crimson. The game is 2d and sprite based. In Flynn: Son of Crimson, the player explores different biomes, fights different types of enemies and collect gems that will allow them to upgrade Flynn. The player will also unlock new magical abilities as the story progresses. There are fire attacks, ice attacks, lightning attacks as well as various slash attacks that as mentioned earlier can be upgraded via gems.

Like classic games before its time, think Super Mario World, levels in Flynn have multiple exits that will either progress the story or lead to “challenge” levels where the player will be locked into an arena and be forced to face waves of enemies.

The 2D animations, art design and soundtrack are all great. If feels like you’re playing an “old school” 8-16 bit game but the game doesn’t feel dated.

Overall I enjoyed my time with Flynn: Son of Crimson. The controls could be a bit tighter when it comes to the combat but overall it felt very satisfying and rewarding to clear a level or beat one of the games many bosses.

I’d definitely recommend this game to fans of challenging 2d action platformers. This game can be unforgiving at times but it’s worth it at the end of the day. Pick it up on a sale :)

This game isn't fun. It's full of grueling platforming and pathetically annoying boss fights. I genuinely can't tell you a time where I was happy to be playing this game. First off, controls are the epitome of a clenched buttocks, it is so stiff for absolutely no reason but to make you feel uncomfortable. Action games' combat (to me) are to suppose to be like you're dancing, everything is swift and there is room for error. This game's combat was not that at all and quite literally made an already awful platformer unbearable.
I will say the game's areas and ost were pretty good, the story is lame and generic which is fine but I rather the final boss have a personality rather than just I hate everything because the script says I do.

100% in-game completion, 100% of achievements unlocked. A 2D action-platformer, Flynn: Son of Crimson doesn't do anything all that special, but it's very solid all-round, very enjoyable to play, with strong level design, nicely detailed 2D pixelart and a varied, catchy musical score. A decently-sized skill tree offers a meaningful sense of progression, though much of the variety of the game's combo system can readily be ignored without much impact on your ability to progress through the game. A basic magic system and choice of three weapons again serves to bring some variety to the combat, while making some allusions towards 'Metroidvania' style gameplay but never really committing to it.

The most enjoyable experience out of the mediocre games I've played. So it's a good mediocre game.

This game didn't really do anything special or mind-blowing but everything it did do, it did quite well. It's just a solid action platformer with great visuals and music, solid level design, controls, and combat, and a decent story

My biggest nitpick is the way that this game seemed like it wanted to be a metroidvania, but then it didn't commit to being a metroidvania. There are lots of upgrades and such in this game, but they're pretty much all related to combat (which, to be fair, the combat felt boring and derivative at first but got better with all the upgrades), I wish there was a little more platforming in this game, and that it just went ahead and was a metroidvania instead of level-based. Still, a really solid game for what it is.

Quite solid platformer with surprisingly deep combat and some very nice level design. Lots of skills to unlock via a fairly robust skill tree, which makes fighting with Flynn's multiple weapons a lot more exciting.

Some stages have multiple exits a la 2D Mario or Kirby games, and there's a pretty nice diversity amongst locales. Background art is gorgeous and the soundtrack, while lean, does its job of setting the tone of each location well. Switch version has some audio bugs from time to time but I don't think it's anything too distracting.

All that said I think there's definitely sort of this lack of punctuation throughout the game - while the concepts are all strong and it looks, sounds, and plays great, there weren't really any absolute gamechanger moments that blew me away. Still, I had a lot of fun with it and it didn't overstay its welcome. Definitely would recommend sticking this on your backlog for a nice weekend game or a side game while you work your way through something meatier.

You know that sort of game where after a bit you're just playing for the sake of playing. You don't actually like the game you're playing all that much but you've already plugged enough time into it to the point where you feel like you need to finish?

Yeah. 'Flynn: Son of Crimson' was that game for me. Its not a horrible game by any sense of the imagination but its also one that isn't very memorable either. Combat is button mashy, graphics are cute but rather generic (with the exception of good doggo) and the overall level design is incredibly plain.

I mean... I cant really name anything I particularly liked, any interesting story or character moment or anything I can recommend and I literally just finished the game only ten minutes ago. It really is the videogame equivalent of fast food.
