have always wanted to play this one, but i'm left-handed, don't have a circle pad pro, and don't have a new n3ds so i'm out of luck. DEARLY begging for a console port one day.

Oh God. I really like the writing here and the gameplay's pretty good, but I can't get past the camera and controls. Here's hoping for a port sometime down the line.

Right, a series that goes dormant for 20 years returns with an extremely high effort 3rd person shooter directed by the Smash Bros director, This game fires on all cylinders for the 11-12 hours it lasts.

The graphics are incredible, 3D effects enhance this further, and the soundtrack is brilliant.

Uprising’s story is simple, but filled with memorable characters and witty dialogue. The villains are so hammy, it makes them extremely memorable, and the voice acting is great.

The gameplay is split into two halves. The first is an on rail shooters where Pit flies through the air on a set path. These are exhilarating and chaotic, you move at some breathtaking speeds and you have to stay alert to continue dodging incoming fire.

The other half is on the ground where you can explore areas, find treasure, and mostly, destroy waves of enemies. The combat is mega kinetic and the amount of weapons available is staggering. You can fuse weapons you find with others to improve their properties, or simply head to the shop.

The games has a built in difficulty slider where you choose the intensity of the level you’re about to play. The higher the number the better rewards you’re likely to find, with a death simply lowering the intensity. The game is pretty stingy with healing so staying at a high intensity can be quite a challenge, especially when dealing with this games biggest challenge… but bear with me.

Boss fights are always a great time, an absolute highlight of this game. The banter between Pit and the bosses only adds to the appeal, and there’s a strong amount of variety in how you have to approach these guys.

There is so much here to love in Uprising, but to get to any of that, you have to deal with the control scheme, Uprising has you move, turn, aim and dodge.. using the touch screen. It’s absolutely manageable but never feels perfect. Dodging is the worst part, it’s unreliable and leads to a lot of unfair damage being taken when you just can’t get away from the enemy your trying to dodge as Pit decides to just stay locked on to it.

I can’t recommend this game enough in terms of its content, but you have to willing to adapt to a very uncomfortable control scheme and there is no workaround. Still a really solid game that I hope one day gets a port, or better get a sequel - 8/10

This game would be perfect with gyro aim and the dash mapped to a button

It felt like I played a Treasure game but made by Sakurai. They should team up. This game was sick as hell and the character banter was great.

Legitimately the best game Nintendo made during this entire console generation. A rare kind of game where every single moment is fun, overflowing with pure creativity. Get this fucking game off the 3DS man. It is a game that deserves to be played, ideally with a better control scheme.

i enjoyed it for like 5 chapters but the finnicky dodge and shitty camera controls make the land battles a pain, and the small 3ds screen makes the air battles slighly annoying to read (but still fun)

its a shame because i actually enjoy the game and characters, the controls are just trash though (and probably a legit health risk since i already spend most of the day typing away on a pc)

im also not a fan of the difficulty style (i only went down once in ch5 by dodging into a hole, but i notice you seemingly can't just retry on the same difficulty which is fucking dumb)

after seeing its 25 fucking chapters, i think im just gonna call it. i don't think ill come back to it, but who knows...

wake me up when it gets a port/remake to a console that actually fits the game, though

horrible controls for a lefty

I wish this game didn't physically hurt to play. The characters are god tier

Game was worth destroying my hands over tbh

Absolute must-play, the controls aren't as hand-breaking as some may say.

I really liked this game overall. It took me a lot of time because of how intense it feels just by doing 1-2 chapters, but it's still one of the most interesting, charming and mandatory 3DS games to play by all means.

Just for the intense action, wacky dialogues and characters I could feel how much Masahiro Sakurai and his team put effort to create a really fun game.

This said: controls and camera left a little to be. If it wasn't for those I would give it a full 4 star alright by all means.

would be a 10 but palu isn't a bbw and this is stuck ON THE 3DS

Joyita de la 3ds, la saga más maltratada de nintendo tiene el mejor juego del catálogo

great game with funny characters, that also manages to be serious enough for it to be enjoyable. just a generally great vibe at all times! pit is a funny and sweet protagonist, dark pit is such a nice spin on "evil doppelgängers" and palutena is a very lovable companion/leader. even the characters that aren't part of the main cast are great and enjoyable!

my main problem with the game are the controls though. i did die quite a couple times seemingly out of nowhere, with my healthbar dropping from 100% to 0% without even an indicator as to why. i also did experience hand cramps thanks to how the game controls. as for the controls, they are smooth while in the air but a bit sloppy on ground. i dashed off too many edges on accident because running and walking are basically the same button.

i do still hope this game gets a sequel or even a remake one day. i'd like to see more of those characters and hopefully with the controls being adjusted!

Great game, amazing for even Nintendo’s standards

Whenever i see Palutena my Kid Icarus do be Uprising

NINTENDO FREE THIS FROM ARTHRITIS JAIL I BEG YOU

One of the few games I would consider to be perfect. It has great gameplay (although the rail shooter segments are kinda inferior to the third-person shooter segments), a pretty good story, great music and some of the funniest dialogues I've seen in a video game. Seriously, Sakurai is an actual comedy genius, and it definitely shows.

The characters deserves a special mention, because the entire cast (except cameo characters like Poseidon) is amazing. Hades is by far the best character, and one of the best villains Nintendo ever cooked.

The game's approach towards difficulty is also one of the best I've seen. You can spend hearts (the game's money) to make missions either easier or harder. The catch is that making levels harder gives you access to new areas, which usually gives you very strong weapons and/or gifts, creating an interesting risk/reward system. In fact, the system was so good Sakurai decided to reuse it in Super Smash Bros.

If you're ever in a position to play 3DS games, this is a must-play. Though keep in mind the controls are notoriously bad, especially for left-handed people. Changing anything from the controls makes it much harder to play, and can actually hurt your hands in some cases (I'm speaking from experience)

If you're still not convinced: the game has a mode where you can spend all your money for a goddess (Palutena or Viridi) to gradually walk up towards the screen until you get a close-on of their face. Peak gaming

I played this because Pit was on Brawl and I'm SO glad I did, cause omg this game fucks.

Uprising is a game that I went in expecting nothing special. However upon playing it I saw that I was wrong. It is special, and the reasons why? Well that’s what this review is for.
Kid Icarus Uprising released in 2012 for the 3DS. It was created by Masahiro Sakurai after he received a request from Satoru Iwata to make a launch title for the 3DS. The reason I love it is because of many reasons. Let’s start with the story. It's my personal favorite story ever for its simplicity and fun. Key moments for me are when you explore Pandora’s labyrinth, Medusa’s final battle, the chaos kin arc, and the final boss/battle against Hades. The narrative isn’t groundbreaking but it perfectly serves the game due to its comedic nature. Kid Icarus has always had a “goofy” tone since the first game. They simply kept that tone for Uprising, and I’m very glad they did. Pit and Palutena are two characters who complement each other very well in the fact both of them are complete losers (affectionately). Palutena may be a goddess but in reality she’s very unserious about her job and most of the time doesn’t even know what’s happening. Pit on the other hand relies on Palutena’s word most of the time and he shows that he really cares about her. It’s like a dysfunctional Mother and son. I bring this up since throughout the game they’re always the main two characters there. The story could be separated into “arcs” which demonstrate a focus towards one villain at a time. I greatly enjoy this because it allows certain characters to have a focus on the while building up towards Hades.
Now onto the main character himself, Pit is my favorite character from the game and one of my favorites of all time. He’s always able to keep a smile and crack jokes even when he’s in the middle of a fight. Sure he can be goofy, but he is serious when he needs to be. Especially when fighting against Hades and saving Palutena. I absolutely adore how devoted and loyal he is. He would literally do anything for Palutena and he fights for her. He never stops until he gets the job done. He’s a comedic character but also a very serious one when he needs to. The chaos kin arc is where in my opinion is the peak of his character but there’s also the final fight with Hades as well.
The villains are on the same level of entertaining as the heroes. Medusa, Virdi, Hades etc. I wouldn’t consider Dark Pit a villain moreso an antihero. Medusa is the perfect first antagonist for the game, with Hades revealing himself after her defeat. Viridi helps serve more variety into the villains and her motivations fit perfectly because of Hades interruption and what he sets out to do. Hades is almost the cause of everything in the game. From reviving Medusa to sending humanity to war, making Viridi take action. And while Palutena gets possessed by the chaos kin and Pit gets trapped in a ring he takes full advantage of that and causes more destruction. It makes his final fight all the more satisfying as you’re finally defeating the one person that ruined everything.
The gameplay of KI:U is an interesting topic. On one hand it’s designed in a way so you can play how you want too. On the other hand its goal to utilize the 3DS’s full power hurts it due to most people having said their hands after long play sessions. For me personally that isn’t an issue at all. I love being able to use different weapons every time I replay a level and setting a different difficulty level. Uprising is designed around the fact that you make your own difficulty and adds so much replayability to it if your hands can handle the pain. Crafting different weapons, choosing the difficulty level for each chapter etc. personally my favorite 3ds game to play.
Finally what I have to say is ever since I played this game I have always thought back to my time with it. I love this game and I’m grateful for the experience it gave me. There’s so little for me to complain about and will forever remain my favorite game of all time. I hope to see this game on the Switch one day but until then I’ll simply enjoy it on the 3DS. Thank you Sakurai and the team behind it for making this game. With all that said My score for Kid Icarus Uprising is a 10/10. I would recommend this game to anyone that’s capable of playing it.

underrated gem. ds controls are a skill issue you should just overcome

The charm of a quirked up white boy GOATED with the palutena sauce

most accurate representation of Greek mythology

Please Nintendo, port this and save my wrists.

An absolute gem, controls are hard though and can get cramped
