Cool idea and well executed. Always nice to see Nintendo trying things that they might not have let themselves do if Mario was starring. Only real gripe is that the Boo hunt partway through the game is some unnecessary padding (in contrast, even though the power outage also involves backtracking, it fits the feel of the game so it doesn't bother me).
The first time I ever laid eyes on this game I was so scared to play as a kid but also incredibly excited for something I never expected to see from Nintendo. Genuinely the best of the trilogy as I feel it's just short enough to speed through but also long enough to feel like a full game. Playing over and over again to try and beat your previous score is so satisfying.
I had big expectations for this game as it is one of my last non played nintendo franchaises. I however found myself pretty dissapointed in the gameplay overall. The atmosphere and look of the mansion is immaculate and the exxpresivness of the ghosts are superb. With the metroidvania styled design t the mansion i found made almost half the game backtracking to rooms i had already back and fourth. I have to admit i also hate that poltergusts vertical inverted controls as it took a long while to get used to and should have been an option to change. I find this game to be a lacking proof of concept that unlike a game like pikmin 1 presents no real understanding of its own concepts yet.
Still remains my favorite game of all time. I love how delightfully different it is. For a Mario game, it takes a unique approach to nearly everything. The satisfying combat, the creepy atmosphere ---- Nintendo just hasn't done something like this since & there's something about it that will forever resonate with me.
Best part about this game is the personality i wasn't too thrilled with the gameplay. The biggest problem seems to be the 3D with the C-stick never feeling like it's aiming correctly. It apparently pretty repayable so we'll see if it grows on me. I've got a lot of improvement to make to get that mansion.
Me cautivó.
