a versão travada,facilitada e souless do X

I played this on a phone emulator for shits and giggles, and Im glad I did. It had the most fun aspects of Contra, but into a sidescroller with cool unique characters. Big shoutout to all those who play as Fio, you're cool

If we play other versions that isn't the arcade, the game doesn't have lag. Therefore is another goated one.

Playing this after the third installment, it's pretty much the same deal but just shorter, which isn't a bad thing at all. As an arcade game, it felt to be on the fairer side, you can actually get pretty far with a quarter even on your first playthrough and it doesn't feel as unfair as some of the quarter-churners I've seen.

The high-paced action keeps up all the way to the end and the bosses are pretty memorable in their design. I can see how the third one was a direct follow-up, expanding the role of the vehicles whereas here they felt like a neat addition or a temporary power-up (or maybe I just lost them too fast).

Unfortunately the game suffers from pretty heavy slowdowns which really take away from the otherwise awesome action. I've heard there is some ways around those with overclocking or emulation, but it's a sad blemish on otherwise great game.

Slow downs really killed this game

Still pretty, but doesn't add much to the gameplay (you can be fat if you eat too much in this game very cool)

Didn't realize this is the same game as Metal Slug X which I've played previously. Nevertheless - these are fun.

Lags like hell, but it's still pretty fun until the last two levels, which are more obnoxious than anything.

my sister and I played this together. it's fun shooting things. doesn't overstay its welcome. it's good

It's better to play Metal Slug X, which is a remake of this game. The slowdowns in this game are some of the worst I've seen in a game, and in a game where gameplay is as crucial as in Metal Slug, it's almost a dealbreaker. Of course, the soundtrack, visuals, and overall structure are enjoyable, but the pacing is significantly affected.

Metal Slug 2 is a more ambitious follow up to Metal Slug, but just introduces slowdown (in most versions) and clunky platforming. It's a mindless button mash that does better in the arcade.

First GOTM finished for January 2024. Egregious slow downs kinda kill the momentum, but otherwise still a fantastic Metal Slug game. Same fun arcade action, same fun weapon variety and level design, just all bogged down by terrible slow down.

Pretty Good follow-up to the original. Adds in three more characters, some wackier enemies and settings, and a final boss sequence that feels like a larger step up than the original.

I'm still not feeling the tank that much, which is why I loved the occasional variants like the jumping robot or the camel.

(I played this on Metal slug Anthology on a PS 2 emulator)
Metal slug 2 is the second instalment in the Metal slug franchise. At first It was an arcade game and later it was ported to the PS 2. The game is a 2D platformer shooter with very beautiful art. Compared to the previous game it offers minor improvements in mechanics and introduces fantastical elements that would be explored further in later instalments. Overall, I would recommend it if you want more Metal slug. A fair warning - there is heavy stutter whenever there are a lot of enemies and I have seen this happen to other people.
Story
There isn’t much of a story at least in the game. The different levels have no connection, although at the end there is something that can be called narrative.
Gameplay
Gameplay mechanics are fairly simple. Mobility wise you can go left or right and jump or crouch. Shooting is only left, right, up, or down except for when you are in a vehicle. There are also special weapons with limited usage. Enemies have plenty of variety and their attacks are well telegraphed. However, the problems from the last game persist in this one. This is not an easy game – I died many times, sometimes from the same enemies. This won't actually be that bad if not for the second issue - there are no checkpoints. Every time you die more than 3 times, you get given the choice of restarting the whole game or respawning right back where you died. This just led to me brute forcing the entire game without actually trying to improve. Compared to the last game there are new vehicles, SP weapons, and you can now pick characters.
Graphics and artstyle
The artstyle of this game is phenomenal. Some of the best 2D sprite work I have ever seen in a game. Everything from the enemy soldiers to the background has so much character and style. Now with the more fantastical elements the gets to shine even more.
Soundtrack
Soundtrack is pretty good and quite memorable. It is what you would expect from an OST for 90’s arcade game. My favorite is “Back to the China”.
Final Thoughts
COME ON BOY!!!!

- Not much to say, more of the same in terms of Metal Slug

Better than the first game, with more characters to choose from and missions in more varied locations, but the game has a serious issue with performance. It enters "slow motion" when there are many enemies on the screen, which is ironic since this type of game focuses on having many characters on the screen. In the end, Metal Slug 2 loses its sense due to the existence of Metal Slug X.

Metal Slug is arcade gaming at its peak. Unbelievable sprite work and satisfying sound effects beg you to keep playing, while the game stomps a mud puddle right through your ass. It really doesn't get better. It's a shame it's just not feasible to make games that look like this anymore.
