Flawed but at the same time very underrated.

this is about the jankiest gameplay you can get. i am surprised the game is even completable in a way, but there are SO many laughs and honestly some charm and creativity in this. playstation version having voices + a quick save function make me boost the rating for sure

This game is not to be accepted. The Story is the same as the film, but with changes like the girl isn't a traitor, but in fact kidnapped at the in the 2nd level and doesn't die at the end, also the mission at the beginning of the film has been changed to a snow base mission and returns at the end of the game. The movie's story was better, but this story isn't bad either, except for the twist ending where the IMF knew Ethan wasn't the mole the whole time, and yet they still
said that he must be the mole since he couldn't have survived when they know that's exactly what happened and used that as an excuse. Also, how could Candice know that Ethan would be put in that cell so she could set his whole escape plan up, and the story here is really short, it's just, prologue, first mission, escape building, sniper, final mission, epilogue, that is too short for the game to be. The Characters don't show much personality, this game focuses a lot more on gameplay than character writing. The Graphics are good for the PlayStation 1, but the models are barely distinguishable and multiple characters look the same. The Controls are very stiff when turning or when using a trying to aim with a gun, it doesn't have a flow that helps it feel real. The Gameplay is really fun, the tasks you do involve infiltrating, stealing identities, getting past security systems and shooting enemies, you even get a lit wire as a health bar, that's a nice touch. But there are problems that hold it back, like how in the second level, you get past toxic crates not by Moving them, but by shooting them and grabbing a hazmat suit on the other side, or how even if the guards downstairs blow your cover, they don't report it to the guards above, why not alert as many people as you can find or that the tape says "Should you DECIDE to accept it" THAT NOT THE LINE. There are also moments later on that don't make sense, like how when you infiltrate the headquarters in Langley, the alarms in the room aren't affected when they touch the rope holding you up. The Voice acting is bad and, in some points, laughably bad (Phelps during the train level). The Music is very good and matches what's going on, especially the music based on the show. Sounds are also fun for each situation too. This Game fell apart from bad plot holes and bad gameplay moments, and that is a shame that I have to give this score to a game like this.

5 stars is the only option for this strange game that completely captured me in my youth.

Imagine golden eye but third person and a shameless rip off

Worse than Goldeneye in every way but it did manage to match GE in one regard !!! How confusing the fuckin levels are

Unfortunately for this game, GoldenEye 007 was already out by the time this came out and even though this was not a first-person shooter, it failed to even remotely match the bar that was set by GoldenEye with well-designed and smart goal-based levels.

It was obivous that the budget for this game was somewhat on the low side, featuring limited graphics, poor performance, and janky movements. With that being said, I feel like M:I offered some interesting ideas for the time such as the Embassy level (which in my opinion, it's one of the best stealth levels of its time) but the prominent factor in this game is the inconsistency in the game's quality and level design ranging from excellent (such as the aforementioned Embassy level) to poor (underground sewer level).

Overall, it's not a bad game for its time and I feel like with a better budget and perhaps more development time this could have become a product that really stood out.

This one has a reputation of being bad, but I disagree. For its time it did a lot of things right and manage to actually make you feel like a spy. Back then people and reviewers were often comparing to GoldenEye which makes it bad by default. But it was a good game for its era.

Partly rough and obtuse, but occasionally brilliant with some inventive mission structures blending a variety of concepts to its stealth action formula.

A unique n64 experience that pushed a few boundaries with its genre.

This is one of my favorite games back in the day. I loved every mission in this game and can still remember many things about it. The missions had a lot of variety in their design, and the sound department did a good job with the BGM's. The gameplay was not the best part, and it may annoy you, but it is an enjoyable game in general.

I spent a majority of my time in this game killing the piano player in level 1. 4 stars.

Surprisingly really fun game. Lots of cool action/stealth missions.

Alright look, this game isn’t very good... but man did I have fun shredding shit to pieces at the end.

Okay, okay, that wasn’t the only FUN thing about the game. I like some parts of the missions. Like being able to steal identities and pretty much anywhere I was able to shoot people (despite how poor the controls are).

But man. This game is tough. Not because it’s simply challenging, but because of how bad these controls are.

Who’s idea was it to make walking side to side while aiming the mf R2 button? That’s some dumb shit.

Also some of the objectives aren’t very clear. You know what you have to do, but it’s not very clear how to do it. Like I get that you have to figure stuff out in your own. It’s not gonna hold your hand. But why are certain things so incredibly specific?

I got stuck at times and had to look up how to get past the level on YouTube. How lame is that?

I know I’m ranting a bit but dang. I’ll admit, I love the movie, and I have a soft spot for this game flaws and all. I wanna rate it higher, but it really doesn’t even deserve to be where it is now. At least I don’t think it does... (idk, I’m still new to this stuff. What a loser).

uhhhhh there's some really surprisingly provocative low-res bondage fail states? i rented the game back then, and found it punishingly difficult, but all those squirmy bondage scenes helped me figure a lottttttttttttt of stuff out.
