My favorite childhood game. Made me a life-long fan of the series. These days, I wouldn't recommend this to newcomers so consider this review a highly subjective one that's rooted in my nostalgia for this game.

This is a very good, but broken game. It has almost everything I love about the franchise, but probably one of the worst gameplay ever. I had no fun playing alone or with somebody. I had no fun with short ranged weapons. And I definitely had no fun with some of the most dated aspects, like the meal part. But there's a lot of heart and charm to this game. Especially when it comes to customization and the gorgeous monster design. Also, this game is great (albeit much slower) when it comes to long range weapons. Good game, but extremely frustrating. Also, why are the hitboxes so punishing??

Peak classic Monster Hunter. No gimmicks, no charms, just you, solved sets, and some jank. Kino jank, the kind that makes you a true man. Not the "Dark Souls ohh its so hard guys (isn't hard at all just obtuse without being told outside of the game what is what)" kind of difficulty but the one that you either keep running into the same wall the same way or the kind you will naturally adapt to. Beautiful designs and wonderful fights. You must get over yourself in order to get good at this game, it is a total power of will. This game is NOT the herculean task shitters on the internet will call it, its honest to God above not even top 20 in the "hardest games category." Absolute Monster Hunter kino.

(beat HR village Akantor, got the credits) One of the most content-rich games ever made and Nargacuga is one of the best monsters in the series. Shame about the balance issues, awful hitboxes and how basically every weapon except Greatsword and Longsword feels awful to play and every Gen 1 monster still sucks dick. Definitive "old-gen Mon Hun" starting place.

thank god for vita twinsticks, was a slog to get through on my own in single player however, fuck that double rajang quest

My favorite PSP game to date. Insane amounts of content and some dated but very fun gameplay.

Greatness overall. Still crunchy in some aspects. Childhood game.

This game hurt me physically (thx clumsy claw handling) and mentally (thx Khezu's hitbox) and I wouldn't trade it for anything

The problem I have with freedom unit is that I wished I was playing DOS for most of my playtime . I understand all the changes it makes , its made for small playtimes , but I just prefer when a game is designed with that from the ground up instead of having to retrofit it all .

It's a game where you have to hunt for the lootboxes for hours on end to not get the materials you need. There's a lot of jank in this game, but that also gives it a lot of character. If you like the gameplay of Monster Hunter, or Soulsborne games, I recommend this game.

The hardest monster hunter game. For me monster hunter is about learning and mastering each hunt, and this one requires that the most from the player. Yes items are as strong as they've ever been (no resistance gain to things like flash bombs) but the difficulty of some of these fights almost warrants it. Really solid game, with just the right ammount of insanely particular jank.

One of the best games for psp. Never finished it because apparently kid me found it too hard

Played but didn't beat just a little of it.
