Super underrated, please play this game

Beat the ice gym with very under level Pokemon lol

Amazing story. Fine enough battles. Janky everything else

Despite all the scuff; this is a really fun game.

The story's great, I like most of the new pokemon designs, and it's a good step in the right direction for the series' future.

It just needed at least another year to iron out all the bugs and issues. Also voice acting. Please put in voice acting next time.

I literally can't play this unless I emulate it

As laggy and buggy it is, I still enjoyed the hell out of it. Worth a try if you are a newcommer or wanna try playing pokemon again as a old fan

I had a lot of fun playing this to be honest. The story was so good and I was invested in it the whole way through, although predictable which is to be expected for a children’s game. The rival team actually had such a great story probably the strongest of the three if I'm being honest and I loved how they got their happy ending. It was a smart change as well considering the last few rival teams have been a joke (flare but ESPECIALLY yell and even sometimes skull). But even the other two storylines were awesome and felt like some of the best pokemon has seen, especially Arven's because my goodness saving that dog had me tearing up. The final storyline with Area Zero was also so cool I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. The time travel aspect was also great and my heart melted everytime miradon came out for a sandwich. They really made me love the box legendary pokemon the most I ever have because we were together the whole game and that was such a smart decision

Gameplay wise there is a lot to love. Terastalizing is such a cool battle gimmick probably the best after megas because there is some strategy to how you use it and who you use it on. The aspect of being able to change a type could make a really useful pokemon even better or make one that would be weak in a scenario strong. The 3 pathways was a great idea and I loved how open the game was to allow you to explore anything you want. On the other hand this openness had a downside as the levels needed to be scaled because I was either way overlevelled or underlevelled. The towns also had no ability to explore them as the houses had nothing in them so they each lacked identity and didn't feel lived in. Even if you could enter a building it would just be the menu. There was some lag but honestly it didn't bother me I had too much fun. The let’s go feature was cool and was pretty convenient for levelling. Plus its fun being able to bring your pokemon out and run around with them. Pokemon in the overworld again which I'm glad is a feature thats here to stay.

gym leader pokemon having fixed levels and not adapting towards the player's story progress to take advantage of the open world made this game feel like a complete fumble tbh

Dude, Pokemon company is so annoying. They've been putting out some of their best games on switch, between this and Legends: Arceus, but they look so genuinely god awful that they're difficult to support. Like these are unfinished guys. It's not possible that they looked at this and went "yep. looks good!" It's just impossible. And it sucks because, again, these are really good! The pokemon battling is the same, but you won't be doing as much of it. They made the random encounter trainers optional (THANK GOD) and so you can really get your levels by just catching and be ok. The catching is like a halfway point between Legends and normal, but I really wish they would just go back to the Legends type. It's so much fun to sneak catch. Didn't stop me from having over half the Pokedex by the end of the game. Though, a lot of that was from Pokemon Home. Speaking of, I imported all of my team from past games! I had an Ursaluna, Magmortar, Snorlax, Venusaur, Swampert, and Mewtwo. They were all level 65-80 by endgame and didn’t listen to me for half the game, but I love them anyway. Everything about this game just reeks of unfinished. Everything is there, and it’s pretty fun. But it’s not ALL there, you know? I’m really hoping that Gen 10 takes this and fully solidifies what makes a good open world pokemon game, but also I know it won’t. Also, if you’re gonna make the gyms in optional order, then have the levels scale with you like this should be common sense wtf.

This review contains spoilers

This game has some of the highest highs and lowest lows of the series that has entries like BDSP and SWSH. The region is kind of bland, the mons are a mixed bag, and the balance is all over the place. The game is pretty east as well. However, the post-game story is some of the best story Ive seen in Pokemon, I did not see the twist coming to be as brutal ad it is. The professor being a robot is not that hard to see, but him being a more caring parent to Arven than the real man is heartbreaking. Being able to travel the world with friends is cool if a little glitchy for it's first real implementation. Why does it not have the shiny sparkle tho, like why Game Freak. The DLC is okay, the Blueberry Academy is much better than any DLC before and is really fun to play through. The Unova bias is coming through again.

It runs like ass but everything else about it is the best in the series and I'm not kidding

It's almost unplayable, it lags and it hardly works. The music feels sometimes a bit empty.

I'm so disappointed. It ain't the first time, but more important and sad, it sure won't be the last.

"It's a step in the right direction"... Bro, they've been taking steps in that promised right direction since Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. THEY SHOULD ALREADY BE THERE BY NOW.

And the only reason it gets a 1 and not a 0.5 is because there are worst culprits in this diarrhea soup.

This game was an amazing feelings, played through twice so far. While not perfect, the game play is what really drove me home.

it's good but couldve been way better

Really don't picture myself going back to this. Open-world Pokémon is such a slam dunk and they somehow managed to mess it up. Game Freak just needs to put the time in, with something akin to the polish and perfection of Breath of the Wild, and the Pokémon franchise could be absolutely revived. Until then though, we have this, and it's not very good.

It's difficult to do an honest review when you're so attached to a franchise, but Pokémon Violet makes it easier.
It is necessary to mention that I played the entire game in portable mode, so it is not as ugly as some people who have had the experience of playing on a TV.
But this does not prevent reporting the various problems that this game has, the issue of low Frames that the game delivers is already well known even to those who have not played it, however this is not the only problem. The game seems dead, the NPCs are not interesting, the story is weak even by the franchise's standards, the game has problems with crashes and visual bugs all the time, it is definitely incomplete in several aspects.
However, it is also worth mentioning that the attempt at an open world in Pokémon and the insertion of mechanics like those of Zelda are very interesting and end up being the game's strong point.
I hope this was a test for a next Pokémon along these lines with greater polish.

Performs like poop, which is a real shame... However this game is no lie one of my favorite pokemon games of all time. The story was fantastic, the open world works perfectly for a pokemon game, and the new pokemon are so great. Ceruledge is one of my favorite pokemon of all time now.

This is the first pokemon game as well I actually dove into the endgame on. Got into doing 5-6 star tera raids and building/EV Training my pokemon around them. Really fun PVE content, even though the timer can be bullshit sometimes.

Gamefreak please just license another engine. I beg of you. Use UE4 or Unity or something. I'm on my knees begging.

pretty alright pokemon game, nowhere near the earlier generations in terms of being good, and the game itself is not very well optimized for the switch, meaning frame drops and visual bugs are pretty frequent, but at least the story was pretty cool
