Pros: Very accessible for English players, as its gameplay of "keeping the beat" is simple enough for anyone to understand, with relatively easy controls and consistent gameplay the whole way through with its diverse set of kooky and fascinating "musical minigames". It's hard to describe just what these minigames are, like a music video that gives you purely visual prompts telegraphing the beats on screen, in order to assist or guide you through the gameplay in a satisfying soundscape.

Made by the same team that made WarioWare, it has its same signature quirkiness, where the actions and set pieces are oftentimes so silly they're ridiculous, but in a way that keeps you glued to the screen. And here, these aren't five second microgames, naw, you're playing through a whole, how do I put it, full length "song"... that's why I compare it to a music video. Each "song" has you performing actions to the beat depending on what the context of the game is, whether it's jumping around on turtles and whales in the ocean as a rabbit, or shooting ghosts with a bow and arrow as they try to sneak past a gate, or playing as mice running across a table-set hiding behind teacups to not get caught by a cat. And all of this, is done via the music, with the actions being on beat. The mix of that rhythm gameplay and the visual storytelling in each game is so delightful, and so unique, that you might even burst out into laughter here and there, I sure did! And after a series of musical minigames are completed, they award you with remixes and medleys to play, which are fantastically fun, going from song to song and beat to beat gameplay in succession during a single medley, is incredibly satisfying to perform, and to perfect! And yeah, the game rewards you for perfecting these songs, without missing a beat.

Cons: Some games are more obtuse than others (particularly if you don't know Japanese, as one or two games here includes non-English voice acted prompts for what button to press to a beat) but for the most part, each and every game gives enough gameplay variety, and visual and thematic variety, to keep the fun flowin' to the end. However... Unlike WarioWare, there is no centralized mascot in this game, there is a little Samurai Drummer that hosts the game, he's cool and all, but he's hardly a personality to be stamped on the cover of the box or the title screen, guiding you through this adventure. And that's another thing, whereas WarioWare patched all of its "games" together with characters and stories, with an ending even, this game doesn't do that at all, you just have separate minigames to play, fun as they may be, without a connecting story through it all. I feel this game would've been helped greatly by a strong centralized mascot character to carry you through a story of sorts, just as WarioWare did. Not saying it should've been Wario, or even any existing IP character, but somebody with enough of a presence where... Where maybe they'd have made sense as an inclusion on the roster of a future Smash Bros., if you catch my drift, heh...

What it means to me: This was the first game I ever imported from Japan, and boy what a great choice that was! I knew I'd love it, considering I loved WarioWare, but also, Emulators were a big no-no, not just because of the obvious reason, but also because timing is so incredibly important, that I wanted the authentic experience on the actual cartridge on the actual hardware. And it was worth it, this game provides hours upon hours of fun rhythmic joy, and I can go back to it time and time again. It's hard to beat!

Surprisingly understandable despite not understanding most Japanese

KIMI O MATENAKUTE KON'YA SAYONARA

Excelente juego, muy divertido y con una jugabilidad buenísima.

The series starts with a banger. I played this one on original release and i remember the feeling of a wholly new gaming experience. a rhythm game that wasn't just notes on a staff.

it's a good one to start with even with the tighter timing window and more complicated controls. it's not the best in the series, but i also don't think it's the worst

Okay. I gotta face up to it: maybe this isn't the best one. Maybe it was just the fact that I played it without the kinda crappy English singing of the later games making me think this. But it's still a banger okay? It's got Cosmic Dance! It's got Space Walk!! It's got the freakin Bon Odori come on. Great game still. What do you want from me it's Rhythm Heaven

Get the fan translation, you can tell the game was made with a lot of love, it'll keep you tapping to the rhythm for years after playing it.
And some ptsd over certain pretty hard minigames, but that's part of the fun.

I'd a port of this over nothing at all from the series please?

almost perfected every level but fuck toss boys man

i don't like it as much as the other games in the series but it's still worth a 4/5. as the first game it has to live up to some later expectations and it does that job well for the most part. there's a bit of an overreliance on visual cues and of course you aren't getting quite as much content as the other games but it's still a great ride (and even better on the original hardware, as i was lucky enough to find out)

fantastic game, probably my second favourite in the series so far as it has all the charm and quirk but none of the frustration of using the touchscreen in the DS version.

The break in game for the RH series! Loved playing this, its got a lot of charm put into it. Obviously, being the first, it does age a bit but holy hell a lot of it aged well. I love all the minigames and even the drum lessons!

Its really fun and I highly suggest emulating it!

Having played this after the DS and Wii installments, some of these minigames felt rather clunky by comparison, and I didn't find the music as memorable (maybe just because I didn't play it as much). Still, a solid game worth playing.

ريمكس ٥ عشقي ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

[All Superbs] Wow, this game is pretty good! All the minigames were great! Even Quiz Show was okay! (it was very well implemented in the couple remixes it was in). The one minigame I struggled with a lot was the Marching minigame, the commander blabbers orders in Japanese, so I had to actually learn which of the phrases meant looking left, right, marching and stopping. Other than that, it was a very charming game, and I'll gladly 100% it someday.

The most pure rhythm heaven experience. No control gimmicks and a perfect amount of content. This game is so gooooood. The perfect system is the best path to 100% completion I have ever experienced in any game. Even after playing this over 30 times it does not get old. I can still finish it in one sitting and have fun doing it. This is a fun game to play blindfolded by the way, except for a couple instances here and there all of the information you need is in the audio cues

Despite the sometimes more complex controls than other games in the series, this entry is quite fun in its simplicity. Perhaps start with this one?

Finnally checked out the original rhythm heaven. And it's good WHAT.
I thinlk most of the games in this one are really good and underrated. I thpught some of them were garbage by looking at them but you need to play them. And I also thought the remixes would be bad but they werent, they are just different.

I think I prefer Fever more because this one has a lot of bullshit like quiz show, bon odori 2 and weird games that are not fun. Besides those the rest are amazing.
It's also a hard game, i had to skip bonodori 2.

Low 9/10. If you remove quiz show it would be the best game but oh well

Got a fantran cart for this years ago, it owns. The WarioWare DNA is strong, but it stands on its own. A real shame they didn't go on to make oodles of these games, they fill a niche in the current game market that mobile games have basically taken over.

i replay this game every so often its amazing
