Rock Band 2 is an absolute party classic! It takes everything from the first game and makes it better – harder songs, slicker interface, and that awesome online play! Getting together with your buddies, rocking out on plastic instruments, and failing hilariously at the vocals... that's pure gaming joy. Sure, setting everything up is a hassle and the drum kits are kinda loud, but hey, if you just want to have a blast with some friends, you can't beat Rock Band 2.
(I played the Deluxe version of Rock Band 2, and I had quite a few crashes throughout my playtime)
Yeah I mean it's fine lol
it builds on Rock Band 1 slightly by just adding more songs, more animations, more venues and more customization, but the UI is very similar, the look is very similar, and there's not a whole lot extra that's added on, which is fine but leaves me desiring more.
The base song selection is very fun and good! and it's very fun to be able to play these songs, albeit on a much easier game than Guitar Hero ever was lol

Might be controversial, but I prefer this ever so slightly to Guitar Hero III - mainly because it just feels more dynamic. More dynamic in its setlist (without those rough covers which GHIII still had [like Paranoid + Holiday in Cambodia.. ooof]), its wide docket of pretty venues, campaign, and of course full band gameplay. Charts are still weaker than GH overall (very possibly due to Harmonix's attitude that rhythm games should be played with 'music >> gameplay' in mind) but they're still mostly fun - and holy hell is it ever a VAST improvement over almost everything wrong with the first Rock Band - I'm very impressed with how much this still holds up! Still a few dropped notes here and there (especially with long lines of strum salads) and I'm not sure if I'm a fan of how much repetition you can expect in the campaign setlists, but there is just hours upon hours of good content here (with DLC support!) even just as a solo guitarist. Still can't touch Guitar Hero World Tour at all though imo.
One of my all-time faves. RB2 in particular is the game of this series I arguably spent the most time with. Bought a bunch of DLC songs, played guitar/drums while my Ma was on vocals. We share a love of music & this was always such a fun way to jam out to some classic tunes together. I'll always have fond memories of it.
When I was 16 my friend Doug and I were overseas for a school volleyball tournament and this family housed us for the week. They had an attic with a tv and this game (with a mic, guitar and drum set). We played this on full volume till 6am every single night and somehow managed to win the volleyball tournament also. HUGE apologies to that family who never dared to speak up once about how annoying we must've been lmao.
Years of Guitar Hero already got a ton of dad rock education through my skull, but learning about Steely Dan via Boddhisatva may be one of the biggest disproportionately-monumental butterfly effect moments in my life that wildly changed my appreciation for music.
By the way, the other 83 songs also make this the best GH/RB setlist. Even Cool For Cats feels right in here? Why?

Peak peak peak peak peak. RB3 definitely is more of an evolution and has much more options than 2 but at the same time I think 2 feels like a more cohesive package, plus has a better on disc song list and I like the grungier aesthetic compared to 3. So many good memories playing this game as a kid and screaming That's What You Get into the mic in a suburban finished basement.
A perfect sequel in every way. Bigger setlist, harder songs, more gameplay options, better character customization, an incredible career mode with more replayability than ever before, and ALL OF YOUR DLC SONGS FROM THE FIRST GAME CARRIED OVER. You could even import most of Rock Band 1's on-disc songs into Rock Band 2 for a modest $5 fee. An absolute triumph from the music game golden age, and one of the best games of the seventh console generation.
