Played again at my local shop had a much better time
Fun, but overhyped. Single player is a slog and the controls are iffy.

I like it for sure but I have some problems with it, for 1 the controls feel very dated and took alot of getting used to, and 2 it isn't "fun" in the way games like Brawl or Ultimate are the combo game is nuts but it feels like it's missing something tho, will play again at a later point

slippi actually making me want to learn this game is a blessing because holy shit is this game super addictive. ya also gotta love the the music, visuals, side modes, fluidity and overall iconography of melee. just imagine crackin open a cold one with boys to the sound of the announcer screamin “MELEE!”. That’s beautiful man..

One of the best Smash Bros. games ever, and for good reason! The combat, soundtrack, graphics still hold up today.
The Melee only fanbase is extremely obnoxious, but don't let that cloud your judgment. The game's just really good. A really nice sequel to the first Smash Bros. but before the series got really insane with increasing the fighter roster to an unsustainable size.

Accidentally the GOAT of Smash Bros. fighting games because the skill ceiling is mind-bogglingly high. For us mere mortals, it's an improvement in every way on the N64 predecessor but mostly superseded by later entries. That said, if I had a Gamecube handy, I'd still go back and play this on occasion.
Unlocking some characters is ass but the game itself is fun.

One of the best aged games ever. The competitive scene for this game is still alive and it has some of the best mechanics for any fighting game. It improves on the first game in every aspect. The casual content for this game is very good too.

Still the tightest gameplay of the entire series. Combos feel satisfying to pull off and the skill ceiling is extremely high. Many days and nights spent playing with friends. Still a ton of fun to play with friends, which we still do!
