Tetris is already a near perfect game, so it is no surprise that this game does it well.

Insane visuals and sounds on top of Tetris make this game extremely cool to play. The story mode is a bit short, and not too challenging. The game does include ways to play classic Tetris while maintaining the visuals this game provides. However, 40 dollars for Tetris is a bit steep.

As close to perfect as a tetris game can be. VR, integration with a curated soundtrack that is supposed to evoke an emotional journey, much like all games produced by Mizuguchi. Much like lumines and Rez it is ingenious in its efforts to immerse and intermingle the gameplay and audio without it being a rhythm game.

As far as the base mechanics, it's tetris with a few of the additional modes you'll see that vary in their aim. To be a casual challenge, totally relaxing, or put your skills to the test. Plus in the main game, a "super" mode that lets you pause time and stack line clears for an octotris and such. Nothing amazing in the way it plays, but it's 100% presentation and despite that, it knocks it out of the park.

It extends its themes of connectedness through its community challenges and bonus mode menu showing lit up parts of the earth with little creatures and objects orbiting it.

The VR is the best way to experience this, not just as a VR enthusiast but because the game was intended to immerse you and initialize the titular tetris effect. To put you in an isolation tank with its sights and sounds, and leave you in some sort of parallel Tetris universe.

I'm excited for the free expansion and while it's been a bit since this initially came out I pray for further iterations in terms of levels and features because I want this to be and stay the definitive tetris experience forever if possible.

why would you play any other version of tetris when you can strap a screen to your face and blast this shit at max volume

Tetris but you're tripping on acid in the most beautiful way possible.

Over the near hundreds of Tetris games I've played, playing Tetris Effect genuinely makes the 40 year old game feel like brand new. Genuinely one of the best single-player focused Tetris games I've ever played. Straight from the new game mechanics to the soul-ascending aesthetics, it's a beautiful delight and beautiful refresh to Tetris. Absolute must get for new and old Tetris fans.

when i say that this actually gave me the tetris effect, it made me see tetris in my sleep

Tetris is so fucking fun also W music I stayed up all night playing this because it was too fun

Its Tetris by the Rez guys, no notes Tetris is the greatest game of all time.

thats some good fucking tetris [do not play high]

I've experienced ego death and a spiritual awakening by playing the Ritual Passion stage at 2:00 AM while sleep deprived

Oh dear god, oh man it's everywhere

I think Tetris is a fundamentally perfect game, and I think this is the best version of Tetris that exists. It elevates everything about the experience of Tetris and turns it into something transcendent. It boldly pushes forward the idea that 'What if Tetris is actually a universal shared human experience that connects all people and all things' and it really should come off as pretentious, but it makes me believe it. Maybe Tetris is the most important piece of art ever made??? Honestly, like, maybe. It might be.

This is one of my favorite games ever made. It's perfect.

tetris and sensory overload, my 2 favourite things

LISTEN TO THE EPILEPSY WARNING

Initially, I questioned whether it was worth buying this game during the Steam Spring Sale. "It's just Tetris", I thought, "You can play it online for free."

Not only is this by far my favorite version of Tetris, it's an experience unlike any other game I've played. The visuals and sound design are breathtaking on their own, but combined with the tense gameplay of Tetris, they instantly put you in a zen-like state of dropping pieces, lining them up, and planning out your next moves. Honestly, I think it's a concept that can only work as a Tetris game; since the game is so easy to understand and so widely known, the game can focus entirely on creating a sensory experience and tapping into what makes the game so much fun in the first place.

Also, it just feels amazing to play, with responsive controls, all the QOL features from past iterations of Tetris, and a plethora of modes to test the limits of your skills. And even if you're not into that, there's a completely faithful recreation of NES Tetris available from the get-go, showcasing a further understanding of the game's legacy. It is absolutely worth the 20 dollars I spent on it, and I would recommend anyone who remotely likes Tetris to do the same.

It's classic tetris with better visuals and music.

Gorgeous in my VR headset. Really beautiful game all around.
