Shockingly great games, but I'm not sure that the Switch ended up being the best platform for them.

Both games suffered from noticeable performance issues. Long play sessions and walls of text seemed to result in noticeable lag, and you'll want to save often lest you lose a ton of progress with an unexpected freeze or crash. The game froze on me three times through my multi-day slog to get through The 25th Wards many, many endings.

I was really taken aback by both th of these games. The silver case has such a cohesive vibe throughout. The UI, dialogue and music is firing on all cylinders. I kind of went into 25th ward not expecting much hearing it was originally a mobile game. That being said I think I like it more than the first game. It goes to some really insane places in the story and dialogue. I’d say 25th ward had lower lows and higher highs whereas silver case is consistent throughout. While I got used to the controls eventually they do come with a little bit of clunk.

A collection of two excellent games with their own strengths that can be discussed individually of each other. However, I just find it baffling that the Switch port of a 1999 PlayStation game and a 2005 mobile game somehow manages to have as much slowdown and poor performance as it does. I don't know whether to blame the Switch, Playism, or both.

two of the best games ever made in one package

You can check out my full reviews of each game separately, but this package is a must own for Kill The Past, Suda51/Grasshopper Manufacture, and/or VN fans alike. Fantastic presentation, music, storylines, characters, and performance on Switch.

Ugh como pueden portear mal un juego de Unity a Switch...

Lo pongo como fav porque es la única manera de decir que me encantan los dos.

You get one of the best games of all time, AND one of the best games of all time?

How awesome!

Solo me he pasado de momento el 24 ward pero que cojones?¿?¿

Great Suda 51 crime thriller 2 parter a story about crime and how to handle crime. Can’t wait for the 26th ward. Kill The past x Kill the Life.

Two peaks in one???????
Buy this PLEASE

Best TAK TAK TAK sounds ever.
Big take on how society shape us taking it as a literal and abstract virus. Every character its memorable until the end.
Also it has a cool turtle.

Great release of two great games.

This game oozes vibes. It's dated y2k but in a perfect way, intensely good music, weird aggressive writing that sometimes tips over the edginess but overall serves a purpose. Like playing a fever dream.

[As a heads up this game does have characters say some abliest language for what I assume are the same reasons they remained in the many ports of Final Fantasy 7 and other games released in the 90's and early 2000's]

The Silver Case is the first visual novel in ages that has stuck with my brain for weeks after completing it. I've played several games from Grasshopper Interactive (Killer 7 and No More Heroes being my personal favorites), but it's immensely fascinating seeing where many of the motifs in their games have been coming from for so many years. Its story kept me incredibly engaged the entire way through, and I also cannot stop listening to tracks from the game on repeat. Really this game could not have been made at any time other than the very late 90's when the fear of the millennium and the internet was colliding head on.

This release also includes the sequel to the Silver Case, The recreated version of The 25th Ward, which was originally a phone game that was lost to time. While the 25th ward was not as exhilarating for me, I still overall found it an interesting continuation of where things left off in TSC and in Flower Sun and Rain. It's a very different game interesting in talking about more outright political elements in society, while threading it with the established mythos from the previous games.

I'm honestly really glad No More Heroes is pulling more elements from these games now, because I never would have experienced these games otherwise! Well worth playing if you want to be slightly less confused playing Travis Strikes Again and No More Heroes 3.
