A fun car combat game to play solo or with a friend. There are several single player and multiplayer modes that make for a lot of replay value if you like the core gameplay, though the missions in the quest mode are all very similar. The maps look different, but I think they could have used more variety in the size and layout, and some of the map gimmicks fall flat - for instance trying to maneuver in the snow without skies is a pain, and the alligators and sharks are just annoying.
On the plus side, there is a good variety of weapons and car types, and each character has a special weapon and vehicle with distinct attributes that can be upgraded over time - the balancing isn't great but still adds good variety.

The story is very intricate for this type of game and can get confusing, but I really enjoy it - as you play characters you learn more and more of it and see how their paths cross - pretty nifty IMO.
The main menu theme is fantastic, but otherwise the music is forgettable - not terrible, just not great. The graphics have obviously aged and it looks rough on a big screen now, but they were good for their time.
Overall not as good as Twisted Metal, but a fun alternative and certainly worth trying if you like car combat games.

No shame to admit that my knowledge of United States geography comes entirely from Vigilante 8's level select screen

Espetacular e muito divertido !
Horas e horas gastas nesse game!

fantástico, jogava direto, queria muito um rework

An arena racing battler that probably had a grupping story with missions that got into th premise of the game but that at the time my family as a fun clone of the Twisted Metal games. I probably should go back to it if I ever get the chance to do so.

Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense got me grinning ear to ear. The pinnacle of car combat games, 70s funk/disco inspired aesthetic, weirdo character designs and over the top stage gimmicks/hazards. Unique to this installment, the vehicles can utilize skis, hydrofloaters and hoverpods, it feels like what Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed did to differentiate itself from its previous entry. On that note, Howard Drossin of Sonic Spinball and Sonic & Knuckles fame worked on this game's soundtrack for the PS1/Dreamcast versions and the fact that this is a multiplatform game, makes it all the more enticing to find out what makes all the different versions unique from one another. I have vivid memories of watching a cousin play this game when I was younger, the giant alien ant you can trigger in the Arizona stage traumatized me, with its PS1 marionette animations. This game is like the 3rd Strike/Sonic Racing Transformed of car combat games and while I didn't get to appreciate it as much as I do now in the past, I'm not sure if there's going to be many car combat games I'll enjoy as much as this one, maybe Twisted Metal Black, Twisted Metal 2 or the original Vigilante 8 that's it.

Honestly outside of multiplayer, I don't remember anything about these.

The "Days of Future Past" of video games in that it combines a dystopian future, time travel, the 1970s, and debatably even some mutants. A perfect sequel in that it takes everything from the first game and does it bigger and better. Levels have more interactive elements. Vehicles have alternate drivetrains. And the story is so insane it's hard to keep straight. If there was ever a movie to make out of a video game, this is the one.

Imagine Twisted Metal... But bad.
