This game is just Mario Kart 8. An already amazing game, just even better. This version adds new characters, fixes the battle mode and... that's about it. Oh wait, I forgot you get all the DLC characters for free, and there is Nintendo Labo support...
This game, in terms of overall content, isn't very impressing. The new battle mode is nice, but it's like all the previous battle modes from Wii onward; timed battles with wayyy too many players and no elimination system. Of course it's still leagues better than whatever the hell the Wii U versions battle mode was, but I don't think it's enough to warrant an entire re-release. The new characters just bring back old characters that were already staples of the series, they just weren't in the original game (Inklings being an exception). All the characters and tracks are unlocked from the beginning of the game, the only unlockable things really are the kart customization items. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still a very good game, but the release isn't anything special. I would still say 8 Deluxe is a must buy for switch owners though.
(The Excite Bike track is the best track btw)
