Nioh 2 is one of the only PS4 games I have a Platinum Trophy on, for someone who basically never cares about achievements this means quite a lot for me. It is possibly one of the most satisfying combat experiences I have played in a game, particularly due to how fluid and quick the fighting in the game is. The customization in the game is extremely thorough and layered, the new yokai attacks invoke a new style of playing from the first, each boss is unique and interesting to fight, it's truly just a magnificent gem of a game.

The Storyline takes place in Oda Nobunaga's journey to create the unification of Japan, which once again is done through a mission based format across the various provinces. If you care at all about history, you might find this story more interesting than the original's game due to the multiple historical figures and events that take place throughout. I personally found it a lot more interesting to pay attention to than the first game, and if you don't like storyline in your Soulslike you can also just skip it all as well and be none the lesser.

Combat is extremely crisp and detailed, and my journey for the Platinum Trophy lead me to realize just how intricate all of the different weapons are (you require mastering all weapon classes for one trophy). After playing through every single type, I can confidently say that each weapon class has value, nothing ever feels too weak or too overpowered in the slightest, use whatever you prefer and know that it will work. I appreciate the game especially for making weapons work pretty fast, even the larger weapons do not feel that slow; I think this really adds to the core of the game and helps promote players who want to experiment with some of the different classes. The yokai parry is also an especially interesting addition to the game, alongside the other yokai features as well; mastering these are sure to give a great advantage to the player so never put them out of your mind. There is also a pretty thorough skill tree as well for all the different weapons and skills. The game also even features a Dark Souls style magic system as well, though I would recommend just going with a normal weapon build anyways to fit the theme better.

Overall, Nioh 2 is probably the best Soulslike in my opinion, it's really what I wanted out of Sekiro the whole time. It's a brilliant game that's completely exhilarating, so I urge people to please give it a try when you can.
