Doom 2016 was a fantastic revival of a classic franchise, but Doom Eternal takes everything that worked from its predecessor, adds on some incredible new mechanics, new monsters, and a more complex story, and turns all that stuff up to 11. There may be other FPS's that I consider to be better games, but Doom Eternal is probably the most technically-proficient FPS I've ever played. Every combat encounter leaves you breathless and tense, but they're always fair. Once you get in the rhythm of Doom Eternal's precise dance of gunplay, Glory Kills, chainsaws, and flamethrowers, you truly start to inhabit the true nature of the Doom Slayer. Can't wait to see where they take the sequel.
