I've finally beat this game, and honestly, I think I've come to realise why I never beat it before, in all honesty it might be a little bloated. Maybe 'bloated' is the wrong word, but it took me, like, 27 hours to finish this game, and I remember maybe 10? It's got a lot of running in a straight line and repeating tasks and stuff you won't remember any time outside of in the moment, but this might just be a personal gripe because I'm used to blasting through games like this in a weekend.
The other issue is one of hindsight, in some ways it's a hard game to play now just because of how influential it's been over the last 20+ years.

Anyway, unsirprisingly the game is good, great even! Each area feels unique, it's got a couple of moments of really stand-out art design and--
Is any of this even worth saying? Like, I made sure to start with the weaknesses because this is maybe the most praised game ever, and for good reason, it's a fantastic game.
I'm excited, and a little nervous, to play Majora again, because now having played this I wonder how I'll feel about that game.

I'm torn between an 8 and a 9, I really want to stick it on 8.5, but I suppose I'll low-ball it and maybe change it after playing Majora again.
Glad I've finally experienced all of this piece of history!!

A mysteriously-slated game that doesn't deserve the hate it gets, a great sequel to the original game.

This is my fifth playthrough of the game and I still think it's incredibly well paced, has great setpieces, great combat and a great story. I also still don't know why the themes of class consciousness are muddied by making them specifically about race relations, it makes the theme a bit confusing, but it's a minor qualm.

Video games don't get better than this.

This was one of the first games I ever played and it truly blew me away. With interesting and varied gameplay mechanics that give you more options in combat than many modern games do, and a story and depth that seems trivial now but was far beyond its years.

Thought I'd replay this because it's been a while. Look, this game is great, easily one of the best games in a great series, however people tend to act like this game is the second coming of Christ, which is isn't by any means.

Easily one of the buggiest games in the series (and this is Bethesda), in the least interesting world of any Fallout game, and entire plot threads that are narrative dead ends, it's easier to soft lock yourself in this game than any other RPG I've played, when I first played this I hated it because I played through it twice and both times I reached the end of one of the Mr house storylines in three hours and was left with nothing exciting to do.

Where this entry excells is in the minute-to-minute writing, and in the utilisation of the RPG elements in its world and combat that heightens the experice from 3, even if 3s world is more interesting and better realised.

To reiterate, this game is great, but I always feel like the intense burning love for this game comes from the same place as something like Dark Souls 1, it's the underdog, and people like to be contrarianists.

Anyway super glad I replayed this, all the fallout games are a joy to replay, could see myself doing it again in a couple of years.

2016

A near-perfect mix of old and new game design philosophies. And a near-perfect shooter, and what a score!

We got to see Snake fight Isabelle, what more could you want?

Somehow BGS managed to make this engine work one last time and it pays off, one of the best games ever made and one that still has life today (even if thanks to mods).

There are moments where the game things it's deeper than it is, but it comes together in the end. Fun combat that manages to stay fresh enough with interesting twists and bosses. Still don't know about the bullet hell stuff.

The story is a bit slow at points, but as all Rockstar games are, it's an achievement.

If you let Tumblr fandoms ruin a game for you, you need to grow up.

A perfect sequel, and another brilliant addition to Valve's catalogue.

I can't fault the game, it does exactly what it aims to, and, as a great man once said; 'the game is fun'.

Near perfect, with a little bit of clunk and a slowness to hook the player in 5th-10th hours, still an absolute standout title that should make anyone's best games list.
