I have played this only for 22 minutes but that was enough to realize, that this is not my cup of tea. I believe there is a solid platformer in this, but the setting and humor don't do it for me.

A neat little card roguelite with a superb presentation in regard to audio and visuals. Quite addictive but can frustrate quickly as well if you are unlucky. Biggest problem I have with the game is the fact that if you buy the soundtrack on steam, it sounds like a nightcore version of what is played ingame, as the music ingame is constantly slowed down quite a lot.

Amid Evil is a very well made boomer shooter. Level design, sound design and artstyle are all really strong in this one. All the weapons remain relevant throughout the whole game, even the axe you start with, which is something you almost never see (imagine using the knife in Serious Sam in later levels for example). Some weapons really need some getting used to, but once you figured out how to use them effectively, they are all great. I just wish there were one or two more weapons in the game and that you could switch soul mode on and off whenever you please instead of having to fill the meter completely and then having to use it all up at once. Movement and platforming feel tight and there was no really frustrating or unfair moment in the game. I can recommend this game to anyone that likes boomer shooters.

2020

After roughly 66! hours of playtime I finally managed to win a run. This is probably one of the hardest games I have ever played. Your best run can end very abruptly. I absolutely hate and love this game at the same time. The physics are so much fun and often create unique situations for you to take advantage of. I really hope we get another game from this developer using that engine.

This is a far cry of what Serious Sam stood for in the early days of the franchise. This is no longer a game where you need to carefully position yourself in between the enemies and choose the right weapon for the situation. Instead you just shoot at hordes of enemies coming mostly out of the same direction with the strongest weapon you have in your arsenal. In the second half of the game (which you reach after just 2 hours...) you gain weapons that simply outclass every weapon you have collected before. Many weapons are simply obsolete towards the end of the game. Story wise this is a pile of garbage. No one ever played a Serious Sam game for the story or its characters, but these developers thought it would be a great addition to introduce audio logs and written pages to the franchise... like who wanted that ? The characters Sam encounters during this 4-5 hour adventure are not memorable at all, even though the games cut-scenes want to tell you the opposite. I really hope Croteam takes back control of this franchise and gets back to the roots with it, but they really need to improve or change their engine as it is a hot mess in its current state. I can not really recommend the game to anyone except those that want to make fun of it in coop.

Bleak Sword DX is a well done retro souls like that is a bit more punishing than it should be. You lose all your current XP progress towards the next level up AND all your items if you die twice in a row. You can reclaim your XP and items if you beat the level the second try, but for that second try, your items are already not active, so you are weaker than in the first try. Leveling up is rather quick in the beginning, but takes multiple levels (4-10) later in the game. Losing the xp shortly before you would have leveled up is really frustrating. Fighting feels good in this game. It is mandatory to learn how to handle each type of enemy. There are a lot of different enemies and I disliked only one or two because they annoyed me. I finished the game in basically one session and would recommend playing it that way.

After initially bouncing off this game in 2021, I saw parts of the announcement trailer for the sequel a few weeks ago that made me give this game another try. This time, I finished it. In hindsight, I should have focused less on building nearly every road there is and finishing most optional deliveries. The delivery type gameplay is fine, there are some aspects that I like, some that I do not (like the horrible feeling of the reverse trike that consistently refuses to brake properly and knows only full throttle or none in its boosted mode). By far the most intriguing part of the game for me is the story and world-building. Kojima and his team are very creative minds and sometimes I just laughed out loud because what was happening on screen was just so absurd. I do not regret finishing the game, I just should have done it faster. It feels like 65% of the story happen at the very end of the game though and I would have preferred if that story was paced across the game a bit better. I played the game from start to finish on the pre-selected difficulty "hard" and that felt good for most of the game, except for those boss-fights against a certain someone played by Mads Mikkelsen. These parts were quite the difficulty spikes. The music in-game is a nice collection of licensed songs that are sadly rarely used and when they do, I never got to listen to the end of a single song, as they would start 30 seconds before arriving at my destination or shortly before the traversal of a BT territory is necessary and entering such an area simply stops the music. There is no portable music player feature as well, you can only listen to the unlocked songs in the private room, which is a shame. All in all, I am happy that I am done now with the game and look forward to the sequel, but I am probably going to skip a lot of optional stuff in that game to get through it with better pacing.

Monster Hunter World is the first game of the series that managed to interest me enough for me to buy and play it. I even managed to beat it and plan to play the addon as well some day, I already started it, but needed a break from the game for now. There is a lot of depth in this game and it is quite fun to check out how the many different weapon types actually play. The main story is one of the weakest points of the game, there is a lot to be desired here in terms of presentation, storytelling and character building. Also the multiplayer is horribly implemented IMO. If you want to play the main story in coop, then you need to finish every mission alone beforehand, like who thought that would be a good idea... All in all this is a fun game though that I have spent quite a lot of time in.

My goodness what a mess of a game this is. On the one hand, the gameplay is quite fun and entertaining, at least for a while, but on the other hand, there is the terrible, impossible to follow story line, the samey mission design and the absurd difficulty spike after about 40% of the game. I had a rather fun time until that difficulty spike and had no problem with continuing the main story. Then they robbed me of most of the abilities you unlocked since the start of the game and threw an abundance of tanks, helicopters, super mutants, missile launcher troops and soldiers at me. I had to play that part 11 times until I finally managed to beat it. After that, comes a mission where you have to defend a 50 meter long glass wall for 3 minutes while a constant stream of mutant enemies is trying to break it. I tried that two times, did not even get close to beating that part and then uninstalled the game for good. I can not really recommend the game to anyone that is not into self torture.

Well I was in a mood for some eurojank fantasy rpg and so I tried out this game. I did not manage to play it for very long, but I feel like I have grasped what the rest of the game is gonna be like. I have no nostalgia for this game, so my opinion is solely based on what I have played of it in January 2024. The combat is ridiculously bad. The animations are wonky, the hitboxes all over the place and the feeling in general is not fun at all. I tried out a bow in hopes of playing as an archer instead, but the screen zooms in while you draw an arrow and this zoom is extremely laggy. So I hoped that playing a mage that mainly deals damage by the use of spells could circumvent the melee combat and the stuttery mess of a zoom with the bow combat. Sadly, the spells are not very well implemented either. The magic system seems fine with a bit of depth, but using those spells is the biggest disappointment. The starter firebolt is more consistent and practical to use then the fire ring spell, which is a rank higher in the fire magic knowledge requirement, as it is nigh impossible to hit the enemies with it. The air blast that is supposed to push enemies back and deal blunt damage manages to move enemies maybe one meter away from you and deals no noticeable damage. So all in all, the combat is an utter failure and no fun at all. The game world is fine but not memorable at all from what I have seen so far. I can walk around in the world of Gothic 1 and 2 in my sleep and find my way, but in Two Worlds, I am completely dependent on my map. The main story seems to be fine but not that interesting. So after roughly 5 hours of playing the game, I decided to drop the game for good and be done with it. I will give the sequel a try one day.

The food you make in-game looks gorgeous, I really want to get some Indian food right now...
The game in general looks amazing, especially the characters.
I really liked the story and music, the gameplay is like a cooking puzzle game, but the cooking could have been a bit more fleshed out and detailed in what you need to do before you finish a recipe (like cutting or washing ingredients first).

Intense atmosphere, unique gameplay and truly unnerving. Had to check a guide to understand how to use the terminal, so that could have been communicated better. Would have loved if there were more instruments to check and control. The ending was slightly disappointing for me, even though it was about what I had expected. All in all I really liked the game and recommend it to anyone who likes unique indie horror experiences.

A cozy little indie game that puts you in the shoes of a tiny postman that has to traverse a small town in the midst of a forest. The art style is charming as is the music. Gameplay wise there is room for improvement. Gliding is slower than walking, the camera does not follow the player instantly when jumping which results in constantly jumping out of the viewport and you can not sprint or gain speed in any way. There is a button to walk slowly though, for whoever wants to go even slower... Your tasks are either delivery or fetch quests, nothing more, nothing less, so be prepared to traverse the same paths a few dozen times. All in all a cozy wholesome game with basic but serviceable gameplay that does not outstay its welcome.

A really great ARPG. Does not have the production values of a Diablo, but there is more depth here and a whole lot of love for the genre. The music is nice and fitting the atmosphere. The biggest surprise for me was how well thought out the world is in its design as well as in its lore. I have red every note I found and do not regret it.

Rather fun but the level design leaves a lot to be desired.
