Redditor-core writing, really good gameplay, annoying fanbase=enjoyable game
Wow what a disappointment. I loved the vibe of the game, especially the first sections with that folk-horror energy.
But it's just not fun? Like it feels like no effort whatsoever was put into making the game actually enjoyable. the gameplay is so uninspired and janky. Not good.
Also jesus christ! I never liked Ethan all that much but I was able to kind of appreciate him in RE7. In this game he is literally so lame. Like every cutscene is just him getting stabbed or pushed around and crying about it. Like yeah I would do the same thing but compared to other RE protagonists like Leon and Chris he's just such a little bitch. Don't like him, I hope he gets replaced in RE9.
Also sidenote: He is so forgettable that I published this review and accidentally called him Ian and it took me a bit to realize

I don't replay games often but I loved this game so much my first time around so I decided to beat it on hard mode.
Hard mode was tought because I suck at video games, but I don't blame the game for my incompetence. However, in my first review I said something along the lines of "this is a perfect video game from a gameplay perspective". And I still think it's near perfect but some things lost their magic this playthrough. Regenerators went from a really unique section to just plain tedium. Some sections felt so much shorter now that I knew what to do (not in a satisfying way), and overrall I was just a lot more critical of some portions this time around.
Not critical in a hater way but more in a loving constructive criticism (to a billion dollar corporation that will never hear it) way.
I also wish this game had more side content. Like I recently played the Dead Space remake and that game had a few extra side quests that added a bunch more lore and was really fun. I think RE4 could've added some missions like that that weren't just fetch quests and lazy mini-bosses. There wasn't much, but when I was allowed to, I really liked exploring in this game, but I just wish there was a bit more to explore but the game is so linear and it was like... damn ok.
But it's ok it's still a great game
