Solid turn-based RPG that's heavily inspired by 90s JRPGs. I had no knowledge of the comic prior to playing, so I can't comment on its faithfulness as an adaptation or not.
There's a lot that works here, but not much that stands out or really grabs hold of you. That's my experience with it at least. It's focused a lot on procedurally-generated dungeon crawling set in the framework of a linear story featuring a likeable cast of characters. The combat is fine and feels well-balanced enough. There's some strategy involved beyond just trading basic attacks with the enemy party until they die. There's perks, buffs/debuffs, and an array of useful abilities. There's weapon and potion crafting too, and that isn't anything special and feels rather superfluous and perhaps tacked-on. The equipment, status, and inventory menus could have been better too, but it's not awful.
The art style is nice to look at. It's colorful. The cinematic scenes are well-animated. The story in general isn't fantastic or anything that will blow you away by how deep and original it is, but it's serviceable, if not white noise at times. The music is good, as you would expect from Jesper Kyd.
Overall I don't feel compelled to finish it. I looked up the length on HowLongToBeat and it's about a 30 hour game. If I had nothing else in my backlog, I might stick with it, but for now I'm gonna consider my time with it be over.
It's a good dungeon-crawling RPG, though. It's another title that I would have never played if not for PS+ Extra, and I'm glad I gave it a shot.
